Feel free to decide how long from the start from a film constitutes an opening.
it's not that bad a thread :(
And Fight Club. Mesmerising synapse shot.
but the beginning is great.
talking about phones. I mean FILM.
Serenity - sets the back-story nice and quickly, plus has one of those long, single-shot walkthrough scenes (like in Goodfellas).
Dead Man's Shoes - not mind-blowing or anything, I just really like the song that's playing and the fact that the pictures and home movie footage that are shown remind me of my own childhood.
Star Wars - The imperial cruiser filling the screen.
The Thing - I like the way it sets up the rest of the film. If only they'd killed that dog.
Dawn Of The Dead (remake) - The zombie that chases her until someone else is closer, the overhead shot of her driving away with the chaos all around, and then the opening credits with a great song and all the "we don't know" stuff.
Trainspotting - The whole 'Choose life' bit is brilliant.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - "START THE PLANE, JOCK!"
Leon - Cinema's coolest assassin kills his way through many guards, before creeping out of the shadows to deliver a warning - only to vanish again. Brilliant.
