SJones is out of the match, officially. I love SJones. He's got a great face.

        Who's replacing SJones?

I hope it's Kabir Ali although likely it will be James Anderson.
I wonder how Anderson has done this season, JD Traynor should know...

        • Re: weather for cricket...

It will be either Collingwood or Anderson, Kabir isn't in the squad. I reckon they'll go for Anderson to keep the five man bowling attack that's worked so far this series. Picking an extra batsman in Collingwood may upset the balance of the side.

It might make up for the fact that Ian Bell's not really doing it - and didn't he strain something in the C&G final this weekend?

            • Re: weather for cricket...

I thought it was just a bit of cramp? The extra batsman may be a good idea, with G Jones at 8 and Giles at 9 that looks a pretty strong batting line up but then of course the bowling is weaker. This'll be OK if England want to settle for the draw but if you ask me, going into a match and not going all out for a win is a dangerous tactic.

Collingwood could be a handy slower bowler to have, although having not watched Bell bowl much isn't he a similar bowler?

                • Re: weather for cricket...

On a flat Oval track Collingwood is likely to get carted. Mind you, he does get a fair bit of swing when conditions suit and the Oval is often a good ground for swing. I dunno, I wouldn't like to call it.

What about Tremlett? He's in the squad again, I assume. I'd like to see him have a go. I agree that I think Collingwood's high risk. Although I personally would play him over Hoggy, despite the latter's 'heroics' (tm) last weekend...

                    • Re: weather for cricket...

Nope, Tremlett isn't in the squad. Poor recent form for Hampshire (mainly due to him struggling with a knee injury) the reason for his omission.

Nah. Although I might. I dunno. It's a confusing period in my life right now...

I just recognise people with great faces. Top five sporting faces:

        1 - SJones' wicket face
2 - Gary Lineker's 'terrible decision to yellow-card Gazza, ref' face
        3 - Dan PetRescue's goal face
        4 - Andy Murray's 'everything's just so difficult' face
5 - Michael Schumacher's 'I don't know what went wrong - extended chin remix' face

can i vote for worst face:

sam allardyce's 'it's expansive, like the gobi desert' face.

            Worst Face no.2

Peter Ebdon's outburst of emotion, "like he's never won a game" face several years ago.

              Worst face no 3.

Dennis Taylors, 'I'll wag my finger if I like, coz I'm a WINNER' face of the mid 80s.

                That was a great face!

There's a fine line between great and terrible in the face world though, I'll give you that.

i enjoyed dennis taylors face too.

it was smug, but a good smug.

                  • Re: weather for cricket...

I love a good smug face. In its right place, mind. Didier Drogba can't do smug.

Fair enough. But I think Andreas Mollers 'strutting rooster' was the greatest celebration of all time. Not many would agree with me on that either.

                      No

How about Ian Wright's absolute "smugger than thou" face about every time he scored?

                      • Re: weather for cricket...

See, he just about got away with it. Because he had the right to be smug, because he was fucking ace.

(I'd also like to apologise for missing out Stuart Pearce's 'I'll take you all outside and batter you to fuck, ya Spanish bastards' face from the original list)
