HSBC Vs. Adam Pickering
so, mild lunchtime fiscal LOLZ. I like surprises, so where possible try to figure out my account balance in my head without looking at statements, as if somehow that will make everything ok. I'm sure I'm not alone in this act of lunacy. Anyway, because of this, when the bank rings me up I always assume the worst. I recieved a letter telling me to come into a branch immediately, so I've been a little concerned.
Turns out I've moved house and changed phone and forgotten to tell them. I was told off by a customer service person for failing to adhere to the Terms and Conditions in front of all and sundry. Literally bollocking me in front of people. Aces. Probably deserved though.
The lesson here is that if you ignore your balance and assume that you're edging ever nearer to the edge of your overdraft and the hefty £150 charge that incurs, chances are you'll actually have literally come money in credit in your account.
Yours faithfully,
Adam Pickering
Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer
