The Watergaw by Hugh MacDiarmid
Ae weet fortnicht i' the youw trummle
I saw a yon antrin thing,
A watergaw wi' its chitterin licht
Ayont the on-ding
An' I thocht o' the last wild look ye geid
Afore ye deed!
There was nae reek in laverock's house
That Nicht - an' nane in mine;
But I hae since thocht o' that foolish licht
Ever sin' since;
An' a think that mebbe at last I ken
What yer look meant then.
