Migraine cures?

sean [Edit] [Delete] 47 replies 18:10, 29 September '08

Not had one of these for two years but i'm throbbing today and slowly going new blind. Anyone know any magic cures? Pain killers, lots of water, salad and various other things = FAIL

  • Never found anything

But if you can manage to sleep for a few hours that normally does the trick. Or throw up.

Otherwise, just get some Panadol down you and lie in a dark room.

  • Sleep in a dark room

Pain killers. But if you go to your doctors you can get prescribed the amazingly named ZOMIG, which contains Zolmitriptan (sp?) but anyway, if you take the just as the trigger signs are coming (blurred vision, numbness) it really helps and can see migraines dissipated within the hour. I've had loads this year, more than normal :( HORRIBLE.

    • I used to take Imigran,

If I took it early enough it could stop me descending into six hours of pain, blindness, vomit and shit.

      marckee @NSFW | 29 Sep '08, 18:18 | X
      • Never tried that

Funnily enough, i've never been sick with Migraine. Just vision, feeling and speech affected. Speech is hilarious and scary...not being able to articulate your words and getting muxed ip.

  • Well, once you’ve missed the 20-minute window at the beginning,

unfortunately there's not much that you can do other than take painkillers and lie in a quiet, darkened room with a bucket next to your bed.

If you’re able to, try to take on liquid and sugar – I try to drink lemonade flattened with a teaspoon of glucose powder.

  • Decapitation?

Not staring as a device that emits radium and sizzles the brain?

    TheDailyBumbler | 29 Sep '08, 18:14 | X
    • Actually...I don't think computer screens emit radium

      It might be sunflowers

      TheDailyBumbler @TheDailyBumbler | 29 Sep '08, 18:15 | X
      • Your computer screen emits sunflowers?

That's the tweeest thing I've ever heard.

  • get off the internet

take own brand paracetamol with codeine (that's what's in Migraleve, but it's way more expensive. Pass out for 12 hours in a dark silent room. That's the only thing which works for me!

  • A migraine's just a headache, right?

Stop moaning man! Just drink some water and have a lie down.

    • haha

bad man. Sometimes I think people say 'migraine' but mean headache, because you can't do anything at all when you have a migraine. It's like having a screwdriver rammed into your eye then you go kind of blind, then you throw up, then take drugs so you fall asleep til it stops hurting. They really suck.

If it doesn't go away after a nice cup of tea and a sit-down, it's CANCER.

      • Yeah, I had a migraine one morning

after a night out and despite me telling my mates that I couldn't see, they were laughing at me for throwing up, insisting that I was just hungover. As if I don't know what a migraine is or something, fuck's sake.

      • The first migraine that I ever had was at school,

and I ended up being rushed to hospital with suspected meningitis.

  • Migraleve

I'd have migraines since i was 14. this is the only stuff that seems to know them on the head. it doesnt get rid of the blurry light shit, but its knocks the headache on the head. (no pun intended)

    anydange | 29 Sep '08, 18:26 | X
  • Tiger balm

either on the place it actually hurts, or just under your eyes, which will totally make you forget about the other pain you had. Plus it will make you cry = sympathy.

    sean @kissinginkansas | 29 Sep '08, 21:02 | X
  • There is no cure

As someone else said if you take something that works very quickly (in my case codeine + anti-nausea stuff) then it can be pacified.

    Otherwise bed + forced sleep + vomiting + hot + cold + pain + dark = coping

    :(

    fionapinkstars | 29 Sep '08, 19:09 | X
  • Also, on another note

it's always oddly reassuring to see how many other people suffer such horrible vomit-inducing hours of pain and occasional blindness.

    fionapinkstars | 29 Sep '08, 19:11 | X
    • Solidarity!

Actually, I find that it makes me feel less special.

      marckee @fionapinkstars | 29 Sep '08, 19:16 | X
      • I think it's nice to know

that at least someone understands even if your boss doesn't when you run away from work, and when your housemates are horrified by the hours of throwing up.

        fionapinkstars @marckee | 29 Sep '08, 19:17 | X
        • Yeah, I haven’t had a migraine for a couple of years now,

but depending on which of my housemates was in at the time, I’d either get indifference; sympathy and quiet; or – despite my protestations – the doctor would be called out because they thought that I was actually dying and putting a brave face on it.
