What's it like?
I went to Newcastle and as I understand it Northumbria has established itself as having a good reputation for fashion – it’s only downside being that the city is definitely not London when it comes to establishing contacts, finding inspiration and surrounding yourself in a culture of good design.
The university itself is certainly one of the better former polytechnics – if memory serves, it’s overtaken Newcastle in many areas, and it’s not unusual to find that the two collaborate in art and design events. Outside of university, we found that the fine-artists, architects and fashion students were one of the few groups of people to mix freely across campus divides.
Also, this lot: http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/browse/naa/famous/
i'm really looking at that particular course which acquired a fashion school in london recently. it's a long story but yes, this is what I need to know (without telling everyone about my life in too much detail).
the only name on that list i recognise is Scott Henshall, on the design side, so i must do some reading up (didn't grow up here and miss a lot of points of reference sadly).
DiD You go there??
No, I went to Newcastle (to study Architecture), but I know a fair few people that went to Northumbria, and a few fashion students specifically. I think that the fashion school is in the spanky new law/social sciences/design building that opened up a year or two ago.
note: I don't know
my brother has just graduated and he did Graphic Design. That's in the same brand new extremely fancy building as the fashion etc. That is all I know. Apparently they mention that the bloke who designed the ipod went there every five minutes so watch out for that. And it's five minutes from the town centre.
I sensed you needed some low grade info to pad out all the good stuff so there it is!
I didn't go to uni here - I went to uni in Melbourne Australia so apart from the really full on uni's (Oxford, Cambridge, LBS, LSE and so on), I know jack shit about your academic system.
Info about the guy who designed the iPod is good.
Whhhhoooo. Thanks so much! Low grade info is always handy and good conversation points.
