which would it be and why?
losing my sight would be absolutely terrifying, whereas hearing seems less important
I don't like the idea of everything being in darkness forever. We primarily experience the world via our sight, I think. Losing it would just make me feel completely cut off.
hearing. although the idea of never again hearing music scares me a lot
Cos hearing is too important. Its control of balance and intuition have evoloutionaraly protected us most. You can see this by looking at the protection of both. The hearing apparatus is physically inside your face, whilst your eyes lay on the periphry, and can be shitteed up by bacteria/ shrapnel. Also, your brain would start to develop differently, and you could start envisioning life differetly - i.e. certain sounds become associated with certain colours that lead to certain dangers. Sight really minimises the probaiblity of consequence.
Its too late for me to be bothered to carry on. Ill wirte a book someday. And then youll all see.
There is some vestibular system in the ear (its a complex thing) that depends on sensory input from the ear (i.e. hearing). Its in control of the ability to stay upright (not fall over). Other senses to play a part in balaance i.e. sight and muscular senses in maintaing certain postures.
like a spirit balance, right? I just had no idea that the ability to hear played a role in that.
nerve cells in your cochlea are totally different from the fluids of your inner ear that keep you balanced.
you don't go deaf when you get dizzy, do you? that would be a world gone topsy turvy.

you would only be able to see the inside of your head
I dont see how losing your hearing could be worse than sight with regards to your well-being. Deaf people dont lose the ability to balance. Im pretty sure without sight you would develop a lot more differently when it comes to engaging with your surroundings and senses.
In fact i dont get any of what you said.
Isn't it the ears themselves that balance you, not hearing?
I mean, I work with people who are deaf or blind or (worse) both, and the Deafs/Deafblinds aren't decking it all the time. So, y'know... I just always thought it was ears and stuff that balanced them.
every time baby.
I'm almost fucking blind anyway, and music (for example) is far more important to me.
My vision is terrible anyway, so much so that if I don't have my glasses on I immediately become Thelma from Scooby Doo, scrabbling around going "My glasses! My glasses! I can't see without my glasses!" I need to have them handed to me every morning, or else I'd just stumble around my room like a bull in a messy bedroom that has too many books and CDs in it.
Anyway, this very poor vision means that I'm paranoid I have some degenerative disease that'll leave me completely blind in a few years. So, y'know, I might as well get ahead and say I'd prefer it to being deaf.
I'd hate to lose it but I could function more without it than sight I think
just so's you could bump it :D
i just can't imagine not being able to see things. i'm sorry to be a hippy, but the world's too beautiful to never be seen...
