Has anyone ever tried to run a really terrible gig/clubnight?

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 15 replies 12:13, 17 September '08

A friend of mine's from Finland and tells me they have a radio show there where people ring and request songs they completely hate and then them and the DJ rant about how shit the song is.

Has anyone ever deliberately put on a clubnight with the intention of finding the worst bands in the world, putting on Christ-awful music and making the entire thing an elaborate piss-take?

And do you think it'd work if they did?

Please note this question's entirely hypothetical and I've no plans to start up such a night.

  • Whilst this sounds like a good idea

You wouldn't actually want to be in a club with god awful terrible music. The radio show sounds like a fun idea though, depending on who presented it.

  • kinda wouldnt work with live music would it?

you'd be booking the band and calling them shit at the same time. they might be so happy about that

    • Clearly you'd need to mask what you were doing...

  • Absolutely.

But my question was whether anyone had done it, not whether or not it would be a cuntish thing to do.

  • some djs in sheffield play really bad songs ironically

it gets very confusing when you're trying to work out whether 'put a donk on it' or 'easy lover' are actually good songs or just ironic choices.

we're on our thrid wave of irony up here.

    • but with guilty pleasures

it's songs you actually like but might be too much of an indie snob to admit, with this hated songs it's songs you actually hate and you get to hurl insults at it on air (I'm the said finn)
