this apparently turned up from the swedish TV archives today
What's it involve?
to the US forces from his prisoner of war camp
it involves him getting off a bus along with other POWs on the tarmac at Hanoi airport, the Vietnamese Army delegate calling his name, him stepping forward and saluting his superior officer and limping into the belly of a USAF transport carrier to be returned to the land of the free
he was grey back then too, but surprisingly handsome
He's like the real Seymour Skinner, in that he's a war hero, but that doesn't mean he should be in charge of anything.
This is a solid analogy.
but it might actually undermine a little of his hero status
in the 'lost film' he is clearly limping but doesn't have any trouble walking
However, when Nixon greeted the returned POWs at Andrews Air Force base he had somehow magically deteriorated to the point where he needed TWO crutches in order to walk.... see;
can anyone say PR backfire ?
questioning 5 years in a POW camp because he might have needed crutches for a possibly exhausting, long parade in front of an unpopular President - the Democrats would have to actually want to lose to say this. so expect them to do it within a week.
the John McCain=Real Seymour Skinner link?
I mean it looks more like Nixon handed out the decorations and props to sex-up his own office but that McCain was complicit in the tiny tim role
either way it doesn't look great for the Republicans so I doubt they'll even trumpet this footage
that would probably blow up in the democrats face.
i was thinking about why Republicans do well in elections and i think it may be down to the fact there's a lot more they get indignant, defensive and riled about - God, gays and guns, now i think their peoples' armed service can be added.
I promise my next thread will be a blockbuster of life-changing rollercoaster emotional epiphanies and such
It's just nothing really happens in it!
It'd be like if someone posted a video of Obama's first day in the Senate, and the video was him walking in the door and going "Hello, this is my first day in the senate"
footage unearthed after 35 years
hmm - can't say I agree with the analogy
Mind you, if footage turned up of Obama getting funky on Soul Train to a Rick James tune or something ....
Is just him getting off a bus, shaking some dudes hand then getting on a plane
It doesn't offer us any real insight into the impact the experience may of had with him. Hence the analogy.
That clip is amazing
