one of the most underrated strikers?
i am not sure he was underated though, in his hey day/hayday/hey? day! he was lauded.
mainly by himself...
speaks for itself
is very much embellished. He was a great striker, no doubt about it, but i don't think he's overrated. He's recognised as one of the best strikers of the last 20 years and that's how it should remain. He's never been the best.
But in all seriousness, Romario>>>>Pele
I'm not rising to it.
never played in Europe. He never fully pushed himself. Romario did it on every stage.
Plus, I’ve met Pele – he gets my vote.
but romario also peformed on the highest stage (look at usa 94), as well as scoring freely in European club football and competitions.
Pele shone in arguably the greatest team ever, playing in football's ultimate competition (no, not the Rumbelows Cup). I think this will suffice.
I'm not saying that pele wasn't a great player, just not as great as everyone thinks he was. (Jairzinho and Rivelino were better in the 1970 team, and Garrincha was better in the 58 team)
the chances to play in Europe wern't really there. Italy stopped foreign players after the debacle of 1966 and Spainish teams apart from Barca and Real Madrid wouldn't have been abale to afford him. And obviously English teams wern't buying foreigners in those days.
It's only the later generation of Falcao, Careca and Zico that Brazilian players started making waves in European football.
but when he went to the cosmos, he had the chance to come to Europe. His unwillingness to even try his hand in the best leagues tarnishes his reputation for me a bit. As does the fact that about 450 of his 'over 1,000 career goals' came in friendlies and games for the brazilian army.
As he moved from Barca back to Brazil quite quickly.
I do believe that Romario is a better player then (the fat) Ronaldo though.
And at PSV as well. Remember him destroying United in 94?
as for Fat ronaldo, you've just opened up a whole can of worms.
and it's not Romario.
in his '1000'...
Oh dear. I still maintain better than pele.
I don;t see why people rave about pele trying that lob from the half way line and missing. Matty Taylor scored from that sort of position, full on the volley. I think my point may be that matty taylor could be better than pele.
Matty Taylor - The greatest player never to play for England.
Gary Docherty is called the Ginger Pele because obviously he's as good as Pele but ginger.
he's called the 'Romford Pele'. He should be called the 'Essex Eusebio'
I never see his name in the great player lists
