WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
who really needs to be told
Well, not actually.
they sound mental
and more worryingly, my soon to be housemate.
there are three apple trees with a total of 9 varieties of apples in our garden.
what do you think of that?
you cut a branch off an existing tree, with the variety you want, then cut off a bit of bark on your own tree, then put the branch on it,then tape it up tight.
if it takes, then the new branch starts growing, with the new apples
srs? that's amazing. i did not know this.
i'm deep frying some cocktail sausages, cos i'm hungry, and there's nothing else to eat
choice of 9!
youve just amazed me
we used to have two apple trees but now we only have one, we also have a cherry tree though and some bushes with berries and stuff.
and used to have plums but the tree died.
it's a bowl for fruit
but not for apples. they get wrinkly and not cold and yucky.
which are the only ones i eat
Do you keep all fruit in the fridge?
Why don't supermarkets store apples in fridges?
What is wrong with YOU?
will go off quickly when you get them home and then you will have to buy more.
^I don't believe this.
Bananas, for example, can not be kept in fridges, that is very wrong. Apples, however, are best when they are chilled, unwrinkly, fresh and crunchy.
kept in a fridge.
it makes my teeth tingle.
and eat them that way.
and I've been trying to sink my teeth into an egg
You're a bunch of mentals!
just..... just leave, kevin.
Eggs should be kept in a cool dark place. There's no need to keep them in the fridge Helene.
Also...if you just keep them in the cupboard then they won't crack when dropped into boiling water. FACT!
even if i keep them in the fridge. YOU LOSE
I keep eggs in the fridge (in the little fridge shelf bit that has cut out shapes for storing eggs...thus indicating im not mad)
I keep apples in a bowl.....or wrapped in newspaper in the dark.....keeps them....apples can be kept for quite a while this way.
more tips fro newspaper
wrap green tomatoes yopu've grown in newspaper and store in dark in cereal boxes....away from sources of ethelene.....when you want to ripen em...introduce em to an ethelene source (ripe banana or ripe tomato for example)
Store carrots in sand (or if thats too involved the old newspaper trick still works (they might shrivel a bit but they dont corrupt for ages)
Juicy mushy nectarines are the worst.
a cold banana is black.
speaks the truth
is the business (removed from skin, obviously).
I will try this sometime.
Have you ever seen Arrested Development? I got the idea from there. They're delicious, like dairy-free healthy ice cream...nom nom nom.
but it's on my mental to do-list now.
I use a FRUIT bowl, which is a terribly surprising thing to put FRUIT into.
to keep your apples for? Everyone's gone mad.
Buy enough apples for a week, put them in a fruit bowl, eat them, buy more the next week.
WE ARE IN A CREDIT CRUNCH YA KNOW?
Save on packaging and feel like a hero.
big bags have less plastic per apple.
Place them loose on the check-out conveyor belt.
people will think i'm crazy!
All you apple-fridgers are all going to HELL!
Pre-packed food is more expensive than looser food.
That that's a scientific fact!
Place one in the stocking leg, twist round, then repeat until the stocking is full.
This does work.
I WANT COLD CRUNCHY APPLES
man, you are missing out on so much here.
therefore increasing my chances of missing out on my 5 a day.
and then I wouldn't be as healthy and might die from some horrible disease, that the apples could've prevented.
It's also very explosive in large quantities. Banana carrying ships are as dangerous as oil tankers.
Ethene is inert
i don't keep any fruit in the fridge
(its a mugs game)
y'know the ones i mean? when they're all not crisp and kind of soft and powdery. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? when i get one i just throw it away.
although i really was.
FRESH FROM THE FRIDGE
just inches away from me on the table is a bowl full of room temparature apples. frankly, i am disgusted.
then obviously a fridge needs come nowhere into the equation. If not then FTFU (the new MTFU).
My wife, whom I adore in most other respects, does not even put GRAPES in the fridge. I mean, seriously, who wants a warm grape?
the bloody northerners refridgerating apples.
they go soft when you DON'T refigerate them.
Did I spell that correctly?
all spelt wrongly, but still :)
I think that may be my last one... apart from Aftenposten and og but I think they might be cheating.
I'm definitely a southerner and apples don't go in fridges.
This man is right
about ten times in this thread now.
and until now i had never heard of it happening either.
you will not regret it.
and they go wrinkly. and they're better chilled.
You probably all mostly get shit supermarket ones which are old, not very fresh and full of chemicals anyway so keep them in the fridge.
I had an apple in my draw at work for 2 months - it only went wrinkly, I ate a bit for 'a laugh' it tasted like shit supermarket apple. If you get apples off the tree they keep for longer and taste better and dont wrinkle but go straight for mould.
how many people have got the chance to get apples fresh off the tree? :\
is the problem.
what kind of apple was it?
Stick to the fish!
i couldn't just eat fish all year round for every meal of the day. SADLY.
which is my favourite apple is best consumed at room temperature. You cannot argue with this.
is the Princess Di of the apple world.
bad analogy. Lets call the pink lady the rolls royce amongst apples then, making the granny smith a Lada Riva..
listen, cold crunchy unwrinkly royal galas are just the best. that's all there's to it.
we'll have to agree to DiSagree.
apples do not belong in the fridge. that is nonsense.
I really hope you learn the error of your ways whiterussian.
only serves to prove me right. thanks frank x
The stupid guy that nobody likes is wrong, so you must be right. You won't get far in life with flawed logic like that I'm afraid.
and i am right about most stuff, i just never voice my opinions. on this matter i felt it was of vital importance that people knew what utter nonsense putting apples in fridges is.
i don't know anyone that would commit such a heinous crime. fruit should really only be chilled if there are raunchy games being planned.
that some fridges come with a special compartment for fruit and veg, that's not quite as cold as the rest of the fridge. we used to have one of those. ahh, those were the days.
but that is more out of lack of other storage space.
what i can't get to grips with is the thought of biting into a cold apple. to me they are a room temperature treat.
and CRUNCHY. mmmmmmm.
i am willing to stow a stray Granny Smith in the fridge tonight and eat tomorrow. if the consequences are violent then i shall have to blame you.
by slowing down the ripening process. If things don't ripen at a natural rate, they don't taste as nice. All fruit and veg tastes better when not refrigerated - a cool larder is the best place for storage as a happy medium between fridge & room temperature.
listen, i've explained this about 84390275382 time in this thread now. fruit bowls are good for MOST fruit, but not apples (or pears) because they are best cold and crunchy. YEAH? yeah.
i don't think your teeth can actually bleed.
and then tell them how wrong they are.
This thread really took off during my meeting
apples go in the fridge
eggs go in the fridge
anything else just makes you a stupid fucktard
even the one who doesn't agree with anyone, agrees with me on this.
it's a round stand that eggs go on
