bit good innit?
Cormac McCarthy = easily in the top 10 living writers
I've attempted to read it twice and given up around the same point, am I missing out?
A friend of mine has also twice tried to read it and given up. I'll ask her how far she's got with it.
then I have given up again...the first time I tried to read it in the bath, which probably didn't help (it's not really easy bathtime reading...although I'm not sure what would be). I will read it all the way through once at some stage, but I got distracted by Adrian Tomine and Brideshead Revisited. I just don't like the way he refuses to use speech marks - I can't see how they would be detrimental to the story, and I hate losing track and having to trace back to who started the conversation, it's somethimes too fucking ambiguous.
this but I've read Blood Meridian. His writing is such a slog to get through. I got confused with so many of the characters. Parts of it were brilliant and it's probably the most violent book I've ever read but my God it was hard.
I really liked this book.
You know how some books you "like" and some you "really like"?
Well I really liked this book.
It's surprisingly readable for something so unremittingly bleak.
the impending film may not be so great :(
I think it might be alright. They could've got worse people to do it.
but I don't really see how it'll transfer to the screen without being pretty dull.
one of the best and bleakest books I've ever read.
