I thought this was pretty freaky
but I'm not paying double rates.
interesting that is more detailed and itricate the more insane he is though, sugeesting he was not actually less sane, or he was more mentally able in some regards than he was before.
claims that his paintings probably weren't done in that order and may not show the progression of his illness:
I've got a psychology book somewhere and it's got some pictures painted by schizophrenics, like this one guy who would paint portraits of people, but always so that the top of the head was missed off by the top of the page.
louis wain was the shiz. just because it doesnt meet some mythic story that makes schizophrenia so deterministically artful
have you ever heard of Josef Vachal?
He was Czech, he did some similar odd psychedelic art near the end of his life.
but he painted a whole building like this...
and did incredible visionary nature stuff like this..
I've been thinking about his work a lot. Nobody seems to know about him outside Czech.
all those groovy images from his later years makes him a visionary in my books
