That's what they kept saying on Secret Millionaire last week and based on Pollock Park it was hard to disagree.
If it were called Bollock Park.
...Longsight was scarier though.
once you've bought a gun everything else becomes remarkably affordable.
I lived there for 3 years.
I've just looked 'Pollok Park' up on Google and it looks lovely.
This place was grim, possibly Easterhouse or somewhere?
that said i can never remember what bits of glasgow are like
which is what I'm going to do anyway...
Liverpool and Portsmouth and some other places like that would be thre with Glasgow too. Ripon is a city and that place is tinet as is that one in Wales! that must be less rich?
p.s. I have never been to glasgow... or liverpool
...over the past 10 years. Unbelievably so. Everything is shiny.
Even the houses in the rundown areas with boards up on the windows have been painted over with bright and fancy pictures of the Liver buuildings and the Beatles and stuff.
I'm not saying this is a good thing mind... i'd rather they spent the money on re-invigorating the communities with some real initiatives, rather than painting nice murals over the problems.
That was where he was, POSSIL PARK and NOT Pollok Park which looks really pretty and is not even an inner city area.
unemployed person/charity volunteer/average joe in a deprived area, identifies worthwhile causes/organisations/individuals who could use financial help, then reveals their true identity at the end before handing out cheques.
It's better in practice than in theory.
So I doubt it.
but Possil is fucking grim. Total lawless gangland, organised crime and drug murders. Used to kick about there sometimes in early 80's and it was bad then and worse now. Pollok Park is an actual park but the area next to it, Pollok is grim too, first place I ever saw a gang board a bus to tax the passengers of watches etc, again, early 80's
Pollokshields borders where I live and is basically run by asian gangs, several murders of whites over the years, they usually flee to Pakistan and come back 18 months later for trial. They run and terrorise the local high school for that area, Shawlands Academy, regular scenes of vans and cars pulling up at the school and spilling out adult asians armed with knives and baseball bats to target either an asian or white kid for whatever reason
where I live is going down the shitter, thrown to the wolves. Slum landlords, including the local councillor, filling their flats with eastern european smack dealers, thieves and pimps. Underage prostitution rings being operated by them and turf wars between them and Somalians. Add to this an overabundance of antisocial shellsuited fucktards, like my next door neighbour, and their older junkie versions and you get the drift. Murder outside my girlfriends house last week. Prior to this the local underage drunken gangstas bricked in her downstairs neighbours window for no reason, just missing their baby with the glass. When the dad went out he was pushed against a wall with a knife held against his throat. When my gf phoned the police she was told it wasn't an emergency so they weren't coming out. My folks live next door to this station and woke up with someone climbing in their window after breaking it. The police refused to come out for this too when it was next door to their station, lazy overpaid wiseasses that they are
still a great city though :)
and if you move here to live in a place like that then hell mend you. Like most big cities you can be in a shithole one minute then walk into a plush area the next and vice versa. I'd recommend avoiding the east and the north of the city and move to either the west or south, unless you're in student accommodation in the citycentre
it really is a great city, as long as you're not living in one of its abandoned sinkhole areas
what's the slightly dodgy area ?
Murano St, it's near Maryhill/Summerston. It's not that bad but the walk from uni in the rain with food shopping is quite depressing. The good thing is it's divided into flats so you don't really have to associate with many other residents unless you want to.
b) The bit near the (actual, ie: Manchester) city centre is really nice.
because Chapel Street and the area around the uni make Beirut look picturesque.
The only really nice bits of Salford and Worsley and Monton, neither of which are proper Salford anyway. I suppose the Prestwich end of Broughton is alright, but Lower Broughton is horrendous.
Sacred Trinity church and that called?
obviously salford quays is pretty gentrified now, but lower broughton is horrible. i had to live there for a year :(
That's not too bad, but as you get further away from Manchester itself it gets very rough. Take a wander up there towards Ordsall and Pendleton and you'll see what I mean.
Put it this way, it's no wonder the students rarely seem to wander off campus.
can buy bags of fag ends in the market there
all poor places too
in that there are good areas and there are bad areas but it just so happens that the bad areas are really fucking bad.
Us Glaswegians and our poor wee city do have a rather bad reputation for many things but what can't be denied is that Glasgow is a fucking great city, with great bars/venues and lots of fucking funny locals.
And chicken tikka masala was invented in Glasgow!
