My previous job was in the accounts department for a paperclip factory based in England. One year things weren't going so well and it looked like my boss might have to sack some people. I blame emails and paperless billing. People weren't fired in the end because my boss at the time took a significant pay cut and stopped investing money into different designs of paperclips - everybody just prefers the conventional design.
