The 'Wire' of computer games mags?
but didn't make my intentions obvious in case I got 0 replies.
You've outed yourself as a massive geek and that raises my admiration of you tenfold.
I've heard this. i've only recently gone back into buying games mags and I went straight to EDGE because It's the one I knew and loved from the 90s.
Was Games TM started by previous EDGE writers? Is it as industry focussed and 'high borwy'as EDGE?
I think EDGE takes it too seriously and juts comes off pretentious. IT'S JUST GAMES!! Games TM has a light hearted yet very intelligent approach. I'm not sure who writes for Games TM but they are better writers IMO. There's industry stuff but the highlight of Games TM for me is the interesting articles that you may not have thought about before, stuff like AI. I haven't bought it recently but the Retro section is classic if it's still going. Retro games are all I enjoy any more tbh
but not up its arse.
Games TM is better.
They are the only two mags targetting the 'mature gamer' demographic?
the ones that are console specific are too biased to compete with those two.
I did like what EDGE attemped though..but yes, some of does come across as pretentious.
I never read Games TM, but I heard they had retro features. I'll pick it up tonight.
Have you ever read retrogamer? I think it's stopped now, or comes out infrequently..that was good.
but none after that lawl
at the time....and I think they saved all this money to start this proper glossy mag..
then they ran out of money.
One of thme posts on atari forum..and I would call him the mehodor of retro forums..he hardly posts about games..mostly food and sony plasmas
The original one I mean. It was written and published in Bath by two virgins.
He always looked likea virgin to me.
but a good writer.
Nothing beats 'your sinclair' though
It's like reading Q for gamers. And they are well off with their reviews sometimes.
Edge is still the only one that I can still be arsed to dip back into nowadays..
I think I know what you mean..its more like mid nineties cvg.
So Edge I think does stand on its own and truly is the games world's 'Wire', pretentiousness and everything
i used to get n64 and gamesmaster magazine and then edge if i had a bit more pocket money floating around that month
i picked up an issue in smiths a couple of months back and got quite into it until i was told to buy it or piss off in time-honoured fashion
having recently delved back into reading such mags, abandoned since the days of Amiga Format.
Games TM is great for the, um, games coverage, as well as the US/Japan centric columns and retro feature. While EDGE is interesting for the more industry focused articles - developer profiles and such
Meanwhile, the Internet is the greatest in terms of previews and reviews, thanks to the medium of moving images.
King of the Shitlist is PC Zone, £6 for what feels like about 40 pages, from outside the stupid cardboard packaging at least.
since the days of ST format in fact.
I went to PC format when Mark Higham was editor and wehn they had Ed Ricketts..became shit after that.
I liked the Future style when ti was dominated by those who started off in in the Speccy mags...went shit in the late nineties..when I stopepd reading them....but I always was impressed by Edge
That was easily the best.
i still have my n64 magazine pin badge for sending in a wwf no mercy cheat when i was 11. good times.
was pretty good i liked the editors on that.
I loved that magazine soooooooo MUCH!!!
