I find myself constantly avoiding telling the truth in these situations. Of course i'm not really thinking about the new *insert band* single or plans for *insert date*. I'm actually thinking something really stupid like how much that cloud looks like a handbag or how much i want to see so and so friend but don't want to say.

Make up something so to avoid saying what your really thinking? (because its personal/boring/wierd/lame)
