I haven't seen it yet. But apparently the hype is enough to invade my subconscious. The Joker keeps trying to rape me in my dreams.

You should be pleased
about being raped by the greatest actor of our generation!
I do hope that's sarcasm!
abandon reply
Well it's either him or River Phoenix
sorry that was last generation wasn't it.
Tom Hanks
Oh how I hope to be as reveared as they are in my twilight years
26/27
He kept
mockingly quoting lines from Brokeback Mountain, and then insisting I called him "daddy" (to explain - in the dream he was apparently going to marry my mother). Still, he's the ultimate tease. FOLLOW THROUGH, CLOWNFACED BASTARD!!
WHY SO SERIOUS
LET'S PUT A SMILE ON THAT FACE
I don't get the hype
It's defo an interesting blockbuster film, but like, it's still just a blockbuster film.
It's kind of dark, but anyone who says its really dark hasn't watched that many films lately.
Heath Ledger is all right, but he mostly reminds me of Jack Lemmon in 'Some Like It Hurt', which is kind of sinister, but he's not SCARY otherwise. He's just Beetlejuice gone transvestite.
jack lemmon - yes
actually now you've said that the portrayal doesn't seem that original at all.
though jack lemmon getting cast as the joker
would be different
Jack Lemmon
as the Joker would be unbearable. I imagine he'd showboat worse than Nicholson. Though I can a Jack Lemmon minus the showbiz ego seems sufficiently creepy and deranged.
Ignore
the "I can" from the previous sentence. Then it might almost make sense.
hurt? Hot, sorry.
I thought
that might have been some sort of clever pun.
It was shit
Well not shit, but shit compared to the hype.
BEST. FILM. EVER.
The hype is crazy. I'm hardly expecting the film to live up to it, but I'm intrigued as to why it's hit the spot so emphatically.
quite frankly...
there's an inbuilt apathy with people like us in this generation regarding anything hyped-up. the beatles wouldn't survive nowadays because of this.
my opinion of the film is that it's a great blockbuster and it has just enough 'weighty' themes to provoke a bit of thought.
as for ledger, his performance is excellent. like don corleone crossed with tyler durden, marinaded in anarcho-primitivist juices for twenty to thirty minutes before being served.
the hype is both the film's biggest ally and it's worst enemy. i found it exceeded my expectations, and i'd definitely recommend it to anyone who reckons big budget movies are all safe and never really explore anything beyond fight-chase-shoot, etc.
i went to see it last week with friends and i'm off again this week with my nephew. i surprised myself, because i've never seen a film twice when it's been playing at a cinema. usually i find something wrong with everything, but this one i thought was near-perfect in terms of what it promises and what it delivers. yes, the joker isn't in it enough, it takes a while to get going, the second act is rather flabby and batman's voice is annoying, but what we have here is a trojan horse, genuine art masquerading as a big-budget comic book adaptation.
i'm roger ebert, you've all been very patient.
thank you.
The brother's right y'know
^cheers
i wouldn't say it's the best film ever made, and of course such speculation is just that - speculation - anyway. in my opinion, that accolade goes to fight club or, indeed, the godfather. but again, there are many faults with both of those films. i'd definitely say it's one of the best films i've in the last three years, though.
did you seen when roger ebert was the only guy to give the happening a good review
he's a big fan of m night shamalamaramadahamabahama though
but sixth sense? who didn't see that 'twist' coming?
i didnt
im not very good with twists though i didnt even see the thing in the dark knight with harvey dent and rachel dawes coming
i just read his review of the x files film its quite good and fair
i liked the first x-files
but as i understand it this new one doesn't deal with t'aliens, does it?
no
its about organ harvesting and psychic priests
makes a change
from paedo priests, i suppose.
he's a paedo as well
ha
that is too perfect
it gets better when you find out why the paedo priest is psychic
but thatd ruin it for you so i wont say
I didnt even know there was a twist at that part
I only realised after reading the plot on wiki, and then I got confused. The film did get a bit too fast-paced and confusing around that point though, which is my only comlaint to be honest.
(I'm talking about TDK)
yeah
they tried to introduce more subplots than was necessary to tell the story.
agreed
the boats plot, mind, a great twist and heartwarming.
I do hope those who haven't seen it aren't reading this
yeah, i thought that was great
everyone says modern films are really cycnical if they aren't animated, but to me that was a really well-done scene.
*cynical
apologies.
The movie was very good
Bit too long and I really didnt warm to Batman at all, kind of annoying at times I thought. The were moments where he was the best batman ever then moments where i'm like ahhh so Sod batman bring back the joker.
Heathe Ledger was an amazing Joker.. wasn't over the top had the right level of lunacy an the little ticks he had such as the licking on the lips thing were done very well to a believable level.
Also you didnt really know what the joker was going to do next
and the nurse scene was hallarious
Heath Ledger was brilliant
i wasn't surprised by that. One thing that bothered me though was the scene where there at the party and the joker arrives, he throws rachel out the window and batman jumps out, but that leaves the joker on his own with the people. Thats the only flaw i saw in a otherwise very good film.
the part where
the clowns were actually the hostages or something was pointless.
I saw it on Thursday.
Thought it was very good. Very exciting.
To the person who said:
"It's kind of dark, but anyone who says its really dark hasn't watched that many films lately."
Well, I have seen a lot of films lately and it was very dark- for a superhero movie at least. There's been an article in The Guardian and a discussion on Newsnight Review saying that it should have been a 15. I wholeheartedly agree. I think I've probably seen 18 rated films which are more suitable for kids than this film. There's a constant, quite nasty threat of violence throughout the film. I think they got away with it because Nolan cut away from showing the actual violence, but to me that in no way diminishes the intent and effect of the violence.
i enjoyed joker's rant in the hospital
some great dialogue there:
"introduce a little anarchy."
"i'm just an agent of chaos, and chaos is fair."
"i'm like a dog chasing a car. i wouldn't know what to do with one if i actually caught it."
to be truthful, i found myself agreeing with some of the points he made. i'm now extremely disturbed.
though it was great (spoilers)
I liked the different origins the joker gave for his scars.
I liked the Harvey Dent arc, though (SPOILER) i thought there was more mileage in his two face character, so was disappoiinted by the end.
I liked all the jokers long speeches, esp in the hospital bed.
Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman's banter with batman was great.
I liked the fact that the girl wasn't saved from the death trap.
and i liked the action scenes.
i thought it was more of a film about harvey dent
that bit was so utterly predictable (spoilers?)
as soon as they said "the joker has hostages!" i said to my friend "i bet the hostages are the joker's henchmen and the henchmen are the hostages". and lo!
overall, i thought the film was enjoyable, but that the plot was a bit confused and maybe trying a little too hard to be clever.
