Which is a shock in itself. He sounded annoyed when interviewed by TMS this morining. England to bat first.
at Jonathan Agnew on R4 this morning.
the same interview. Oh well.
I heard on 5live extra.
and not at Old TRafford. Pissing down in Manc today.
gets a good score in this innings, i don't want to be in the position where i want to see him dropped :(
and I know who it is.
Yeah he is. Bonkers.
but annoyed we haven't made that sixth batsman Shah, Bopara or any of the countless other batsmen averaging higher than 13 this season. Course, Collingwood may get a dashing hundred this test, but then so might anyone else brought in to the side. Don't really see what he's done to deserve a place in the side again since being dropped when there are very good options in the counties. Suppose this is the negative side of central contracts.
Unbeaten 112, first 50 came off 16 balls.
I'm also now convinced Foster needs to be given a shot with the gloves
He said exactly this to me yesterday lunchtime, pretty much verbatim.
I have only one issue with Foster - he used to go to clubs in Durham in his England blazer - cock.
and it was just a smiley face.
A friend of mine went to Durham and once got into a bit of verbal handbags with Jimmy Anderson after England had just lost a one dayer at Chester Le Street and the whole England team was in a student club afterwards, throwing money in the air and the like.
Suffice to say Jimmy's stance was "I'm better than you because I have lots of money" and my mate's retort was "At least I haven't embarassed my country in front of the whole world today"
anyways, now I've cursed that, anyone for some more regent's park nets a week today? weather permitting obviously.
Can do thursday, but I'm leaving the country on fri and I'll probably need to do last minute stuff.
Although the latest weather forecast shows weds to be the worst day weather wise next week. Tuesday looks a lot better.
i did consider looking at the weather forecasts, but it's been so so wrong recently as regards rain i didn't bother.
To wow you all with my wayward bowling and sublime reverse sweeping
between bouncing nearer he bowler's end than the batsmen's, and head high beamers.
i hit two of our number and tried to decapitate the other two.
Shotwise was generally quite poor, except for one quite nice straight drive.
but not Wednesday.
I hate it when that happens.
as much as he does next one.
His average is so poor now, it has to be the case
but who would you put in his place as captain?
Robert Key? Yeah good point.
replacement would be Ali Cook, and I think it might be too early for him.
The choices are not great
because his place in the side is so much under threat all the time. And I'd rather just let Pietersen be Pietersen than burden him with the responsibility and cool-headedness that captaincy requires.
Batting well, did very well as captain previously and showed some of his best batting form whilst captain. No question for me. I'd like to see it next test.
but I'm not sure he's much of a creative thinker in the field.
I think he's got to score at least 50 next innings or there are going to be a lot of questions. And I can't remember the last time he got more than 25 in a second innings.
in any innings for england. He has been poor for 18 months at least
and got a brilliant hundred last summer. But he hasn't been consistently good enough imo for a good four or five years.
From the BBC live text:
I read at the weekend that Matt Lucas has been voted Britain's 'favourite bald person'. Gail Porter bagged second. They both must be so ruddy proud.
Dudley Moore and Peter Cooke
The rest of them can belt off
Surely not his real name
Hugh Janus and Phil McCavity are back up?
I'm his friend on facebook
He'd get more runs...
why does the next wicket have to fall so soon afterwards. COLLAPSE!!! Perhaps.
but it doesn't help when Michael Vaughan's your number 3.
NZ should stick him at number 3 for a laugh.
This guy does not have a plan B in him
but I think it hit him outside the line, so wasn't out either way.
Caught or LBW, doesn't matter as it was one or t'other.
it was very borderline. He definitely didn't hit it, but 95% of the ball hit him outside the line.
Which was predictable.
Strauss was very unlucky, but was obviously out, and snicko says Vaughan got a feather on his. Pietersen's bat hit his pad quite hard, which is why I think the umpire thought he'd hit it.
Vaughan and KP, by your reckoning, were not out? this makes me feel slightly better. It'll be little comfort in 10 overs time when we're bowling.
Sadly Bell will delight us with a 24
needs to wise up and become consistent. though i love his hundreds, he doesn't get nearly enough basic starts - regular 30's/40's would matter more to us at the moment than a hundred every series and sod all else
it's far more frustrating and stupid when he gets a lightning fast 40 runs and then gets himself out.
but i meant in the context of when we hit a mini-collapse, some kind of stability would be nice from a number 4. but yeah, it is irritating when he gets speedy 40's and does something silly.
I fully agree with ithica - batting in cricket is all about consistency and appropraite application/shot selection. Pietersen was an utter disgrace to test cricket in the last test.
i didn't explain myself properly, i ment i hate it more when he gets going and then does something stupid. if he gets 4 or 5 then gets out to a good delivery then fine.
and i completely agree about the last test match, i was there and i couldn't believe how careless he was.
because it usually means he's got himself out by trying to push the accelerator.
when he gets past 10 though. he should just... stop being silly.
where you are coming from, but KP is the only player England have who can change the course of an innings. He didn't get out playing an attacking shot at Headingly in the second innings, he got out playing defensively. To try and tell him to curb his aggression would completely ruin him as a player. He needs the middle order to bat with him, take the pressure off him and allow him to play freely, a bit like Mark Waugh in the 90s.
It annoys me how every time Pietersen scores big (very regularly) everyone's singing his praises and when he gets out playing the same way, everyone calls him a pillock. That's how he plays. He's our most effective batsman when he plays like that.
average of 9 this summer :D this will be great, obviously.
a century in this match, you watch.
out for 4. good work.
so to stop the embarassment
i would like to congratulate my brethren on his excellent tossing.
we could get a decent draw in this
I'm going for anti-english god.
Especially as we decided to bat first and looked well set after a while.
i take it you mean an hour and a half?
That's a while in my book.
and there is no Stuart Broad to save us now.
and get a great century, hauling England to 300 or so.
Ah well. At least it only gives Kallis one innings to try and find his form.
We still have two recognised batsmen!
Neither of them can bat properly!
Get a shake on Graham you can wrap the series up by lunch tomorrow if you try your best.
I am constantly reminded of this line by Bill Bailey:
'I am English, and as such I crave disappointment'
well British, and this is my first century post!
and wave your bat in the air then.
to the pavilion and get back down to work. Don't want to milk it or anything.
and had a century
i thought they'd show more fight than this, don't just colapse you morons.
Strauss is a real short term solution though (is 31 too old?)
I wouldn't bet against Vaughan still being there, just because he is a good captain
just cos of captaincy
But he may well be, given the lack of options elsewhere
he could still have another seven or eight years. He's easily the best choice for captain. I'd go for the same team as ht27, probably. But Pietersen 3, Bell 4, Shah 5 and Bopara 6.
and maybe make mould Bopara into a number 3.
it's got to be bell. you need a classic batsmen at 3, not a 'rough round the edges' streetfighter like bopara.
XI for the ashes:
and his technique is a doddle to pick holes in for an attack with any test experience.
Thats some mighty fine man boobs
I'd drop Vaughan down to 6, swap Colly for Shah, leave the rest. Unless it's a bouncy Oval, in which case Harmy in for, um, anderson or sidebottom.
After this series though, let's get Foster in yeah?
i was replying to a post up there ^
I'd probably still have Vaughan tbh.
depending on conditions.
for a laugh, they were well good the other day!
we're batting out for a draw, on the opening day of a test we have to win, when we chose to bat, against a bowling attack shorn of their best bowler.
253, I'm an optimist
80's not that many really.
always has panesar. i know he is a spinner and that so offers something different, but does he actually contribute that much?
and a wicket taking spinner. nuff said.
Or Shaun Udal
MONTY! MONTY! MONTY!
is acting like a cock at the moment.
