There are no Butlins in Wales anyway..
probably. Few rough estates in East London too, but that's the only place I've actually felt getting attacked was pretty likely, not just a possibility.
Yeah there's a few knob ends just like everywhere else but you've got no reason to feel scared whatsoever.
it's also number one on my least favourite places in the entire world list.
is really not that bad.
therefore I am fearless
and do u wear alot of black hoodies.?
Maybe like a big gun or something.
If so it doesn't seem that bad. There's a butchers that sells camel meat there.
on a Saturday night
I'm not a fan of it's population.
unfamiliarity with the place, and the fact that fights seemed to be kicking off all around me.
It's probably no worse than, say, Peterborough on a Saturday night. Or hundreds of other places for that matter.
So that's not really a good indication of a town with charm, grace and good form.
southend is the epitome of charm
its pretty scary
He's a bully.
ancient by-law stating that all Scots can be shot in London
my mum's family are from around that way and I have to make the occasional visit there. Calling it grim would be generous.
i live there.
yes it is shit. I had a drink in the goose last night. never again.
rather than a county.
But anyway, it was a proper dive the last time I went. It makes Greenock look like Beverly Hills.
my mum always puts 'Renfrewshire' on my relatives' Christmas cards so I suppose I just picked it up from there
and the Oxford Road in Reading
threatening in the early hours but suprisingly safe; a few roads off the oxford road on the other hand are pretty bad.
i'm gonna say hatfield- just a horrible air of violence waiting to happen - and this was on a monday morning!
the oxford road isn't too bad. i'd rather avoid it if possible though
but surely it's not all that threatening. Maybe life-threateningly dull.
Been to worse places but I at least knew my way around them
It probably was dire about 20 years ago but Cowley Road is pretty nice these days.
for the first time, about 4 years ago. And like I say, it was no worse than any other inner city area at night, I just didn't know my way about which made it more troublesome
it features the best chips with cheese you could ever eat
Leigh Park in Havant
Crowhurst in Sussex
wigan (our van was broken into in broad daylight after being left alone for 30 minutes)
scarborough on a saturday night: literally a fight on every street corner and the bouncer at the club we played at got stabbed.
liverpool: just fucking horrible.
doncaster: more like don't-caster!
the worst town in the entire of England, possibly the British Isles. what a horrible, hellhole, soulless, scabby, depressed, decrepit shitpile
Yes, ALL of them.
is a hole on a saturday night, I guess I'm just use to that though and I don't go their then vry much hehe
it looked like quite a nice seaside town when we got there and then when i went for a late night walk it was carnage everywhere.
durring the day its pretty nice in places, but at night, well on weekend nights at least, all the idiots come out and drink like bastards in shit holes. And there isn't really any holes that aint shit in Scarborough to be honest hehe.
Alot of town are like that on a weekend though.
Third-world shit hole.
in Nottingham, with kids trying to sell me drugs, armed police walking aroun th streets and some other kids asing, and showing me thier guns...
...aprt from that it was pretty friendly.
Maybe the middle of a massive crowd of fans at a Leeds Vs Man U match ages ago that wasn't to pretty, police helicopters and horses everywhere. I was just a kid though so it was a little scary.
The place is really creepy (just think about what it would have meant for everyone above if the government had needed to use it). Plus there's no friendly tour guide, only an audio trail through headphones by some harsh-toned man and looping videos of Protect & Survive on all the time. Horrible.
Dungeness is quite spooky as well.
In terms of thinking I'm going to be attacked by someone, I had far more of that when I was living in Essex than I do living in London.
so horribly evocative. Also run by nutcases: did you like the threats about what would happen if you don't pay?
I can't remember. Was it dropping a nuclear bomb on you?
and at one point a skeleton saying this is what will happen to you if you don't pay but with a concerning level of false jollity. And the staff in the canteen were like the family in Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
You can hire it for parties but not if you are under 40 unfortunately.
it's not really that scary but i got mugged there so i'd say there.
Genuinely scary and full of utter scum-of-the-earth cuntheads.
and Fishponds ain't that bad
You did miss out Hartcliffe though
when you tell me there's a place called "Splott"
if you want to posh it up a bit is a right rough shithole.
Black Hill Estate in Glasgow.
I was scared to get out the car.
sawdust on the floor etc. Shithole ain't the word...
Remember it being pretty grim. Felt like the place that 'Brighton Rock' would have had been set if it was written by James Kelman (if that makes sense).
It's not somewhere i frequent.
I honestly did think i was going to be stabbed to death though =(
They'd have killed me. With smack and lard.
is fine and on the way to becoming posh. If you think that's scarey then you need to man up.
It's idlyllic compared to St Anne's and The Meadows in Nottingham. They're two properly rough places. I was walking through St Anne's once and some skank asked for a cigarette, I politely said I don't smoke and she went, 'WELL GO FUCK YOU THEN' and threw a glass bottle at me, missing by about a metre and smashing against a wall. It didn't even seem that strange.
I also reckon places like Newark, Grantham and Lincoln are dark places generally, in a less obvious way.
I didn't really feel threatened at all. Brixton scared me more.
it didn't seem too bad, though the little shopping precinct bit was a total hole.
Maybe it was because it was about 10am when all the urchins were still asleep.
Leigh Park at any time, ever.
thank god my time in Portsmouth was spent nestled in Southsea the closest i came to a council estate was Somerstown which is pretty tame in comparison.
and walking through Havant at night on my way back from Hayling Island.
well wickham to be exact so never ever found it scary.
the whole of portsmouth is a fucking hole (bar southsea). ugh, the people give me the creeps.
and wecock as well. shudder.
"weacock boys" on a railway bridge once. It was genius.
Try Macduff. More smack and more scary.
i was in Banff and Macduff last weekend. Not scary, but this is an overwhelming feeling that there is an impending apocalypse in both places. When i'm there it kinda always feels like it's gonna rain, but in biblical proportions....
It's haunted and only appears one a year. Wooo ooo ooo.
in my countryside town
late at night scare the crap out of me.
stuck between The Gorbals and Bridgeton. Place was a no go area for taxis and police and you had to do your own policing. Total hellhole, I lived on top floor, first two landings were ganghuts for the 'young team' to drink and do buckets and try to mug you or your visitors, top two landings were shooting galleries for the junkies to inject and od and try to mug you or your visitors. I would get death threats for cleaning the human shit, piss, puke, blood and needles off the stairs because the stairs were then too wet for them to sit down on, I would get threatened with eviction into a homeless unit with a mark of "do not rehome" against my name if I didn't clean the stairs, seriously
would have attempted home invasions while I was in the house/bath, had every pane of glass in the house bricked in one time when I chased a wannabe housebreaker from my door, the housing replaced my windows with cellophane as the place was condemned for demolition so no money was to be spent on it. Had an attempted mugging carried out on me on one of the landings by three of the shellsuited young cherubs. It was like that scene from Crocodile Dundee, "that aint a knife mate, this is a knife" when I pulled a 12'' inch razor sharp bowie knife on them and told them to kindly fuck off. Had friends stabbed outside my house and robbed of watches etc which they then tried to sell back to us, police told us "it's a quiet area so you must have started it". Would look out my window at 5am and see kids of no older than eight standing around burning cars. Was trapped in my house for 90 minutes when out of spite at me not letting them break in they blocked the stairs and torched the house below me, had to lie on floor for 90 minutes with my dogs and cat till fire brigade could get up with oxygen. Was told I wasn't in any danger after this and refused emergency move, came home 13 days after first fire to find that after another failed attempt to break into my house, chisel marks around locks, they'd torched the whole building. Had to wait 2 1/2 days until they'd let me in to get my badly injured cat out, the locals went in at my back as I went to the vets and stole everything down to my clothes, shampoo and teabags. No one was arrested for any of this, the police said I did it myself then had a go at me for the impressionable young entrepreneurs stealing knifes, my prescription Diazepam and a couple of, ahem, arty films from my house, me bad, apparently
this lasted two years without stop, I then lived a quarter of a mile along the road, across the road from the local police station, for five years of the same on a lower level, bricked in windows, threats, intimidation etc, with the police telling me that if I couldn't police it myself I wasn't 'ard enough to live there then threatening to plant heroin and a knife on me for policing it myself
finally got a house in the area I'm from so don't have to put up with such hi-jinks. Unfortunately, the areas I mentioned are being gentrified as they're right next to the city centre and the real problem cases from there are being shifted here and it's being thrown to the wolves
Detroit was scary, but in a post-apocalypse type of way, completely devoid of life. And I was once robbed of a bottle of Lilt in St Pauls in Bristol, woo :p
and new houses, new road, roundabout etc built and the name was changed to Richmond Gate blahdeblah. There's just something about that Gorbals area though, living on rep/legends of old but in reality a bunch of cowardly bullies with no bottle who cry "when my uncle gets out of the jail you're getting stabbed" as soon as you stand up to them. But there's so many of the fuckers, for every team you send packing two replace them
Incidentally, this part of Glasgow was originally a leper colony and apparently the plague lies dormant here. Old habits die hard, genetic mutation gangsta bawbagism etc
its like the ghetto, for chavs. We were in our tight jeans so we were obvious targets, but after literally 3 minutes of entering the estate, we were being pelted with stones and bits of glass!
i lived there for 18 years and it was pretty shit.
i was back all last week to see my parents as well. worst week off ever due to the fact its just plain depressing and the most fun you can have is getting drunk every night.
Followed by Fratton/Portsmouth
in cardiff on a weekend, scary place indeed. Splott and Grangetown are also pretty bad. I've moved back home to Blackwood now though and the valleys are pretty rough.
but 'Hamsterdam' in West Baltimore during Colvin's 'legalisation' period got pretty fucked up.
All cleaned up now though and dulldosed.
OK most of the time, but there are times when it isnt
a wasteland of nothing (been/being refurbished)
attack on a hair salon's party
is bloody terrifying
gangs of youths tipsy on Pimm's terrorising the Regatta. BRING BACK NATIONAL SERVICE.
whilst dressed as a promotional ear, terrifying.
There are people there who still drive the old shape Range Rover man.
just outside Bromsgrove, at 3 in the morning, stoned.
There just full of scallies ready to shank your face and boil your bollocks. Seriously though...Basildon is rubbish.
is more depressing than scary.
Specifically Madams Wood and Kenyon way are evil if you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
it always seems okay when i'm round there. that said, i've only ever been there in the daytime and stuck mainly to the main road...
