if so, why?
Cos I hate life.
passes the time
and assorted charcuterie
smells, don't like eating tar
cos it's fun and something to do when you go out walking a lot and are bored of having two hands in your pockets the whole time. And it makes people give you bad looks and makes me look a bit older which is always appreciated. And I like dependancy.
I SMOKE COS I'M HOPING FOR AN EARLY DEATH
AND I NEED TO CLING TO SOMETHING
rhythm is dancer (8)
because it makes you look super cool, hott and sophisticated...
because it's a cool way to kill yourself
because there's nothing better to do - to pass the time, like Klaire says.
and to look totally fucking cool
because i enjoy it
you really actually smoke? as in biscuity jack smokes? how curious
Why? I like it.
Gives me five-minute relaxy breaks from being indoors.
i'm "cutting down" but it's only been a few weeks.
don't worry though. come saturday i'll be puffin away again
though people always think I do.
and they'll say don't you smoke?
And I'll say I never have and they always respond with 'I thought you did, you look someone who would smoke.'
it's quite pleasant, and regulates my day nicely.
because i can't smoke a spliff in public.
i enjoy it and hope it makes me appear more interesting. maybe.
I smoke because there is nothing better than a fortuna and a cup of coffee in the garden on a sunny morning.
why? 5 failed attempts at quitting
I smoke because I'm addicted and I enjoy it
I'll kill them
it kills you, is expensive and doesn't even get you high
cancer and other diseases related with it kill you.
never fags though. Don't see the attraction really.
i thought lots were anti-smoking here
The lunar ballet goes on
apparently, depending on which statistics you read.
which begs the question, why don't we stand up for ourselves more?
it's been a week. Feeling pretty good.
it's a way to pass the time like Klaire says and I'm probably addicted to it even though I don't want to admit it. Anyhow I'm cutting down now.
Now i only do it if drinking, but not very occasionally
Then i got down to 30, then 20, then 10, then got rid of all cigs bar the morning and drinking ones, then cut the morning ones and most of the drinking ones out.
and I hate everyone that does
smoking looks so cool, but Ive never got around to doing it.
Intrestingly, due to the flux and repair of cells, which does not slow down until mid-late thirties, you can smoke (moderatly), give up before you are thirty and do little or no damage to you life expectancy.
because it's lovely
and going on for about 10 weeks too i think. complete willpower, yeah no point in patches. if you need them, you clearly aren't ready to quit.
Anyways, well done!!
I have recently gone cold turkey.
Yes, I would quite like a cigarette right now.
I to went cold turkey on fri..defo could smoke now though :(
Gradually getting it out of your system is probably far better than going from all to nothing.
NO, NEVER, NO. IT'S A DISGUSTING HABIT
not very much though.
Except at festivals where I am a chaining MACHINE.
is probably one of the worst reasons for anthing ever
because regrettingly even though i do hate smoking it can look slightly cool
which is better than passing the time
i limit myself to about 5-6 a day. however, if i'm drinking/at a festival i can happily smoke my way through 20 packs.
i do it because i really like it. i'm pretty healthy otherwise so i don't see it as a problem.
you're "pretty healthy otherwise"?
Dude, srsly, how can that make any sense?
smokers should fuck off somewhere else. i don't want to breath in your smelly deadly fumes, and i don't want to pay for your damaged to lungs to be held together that little bit longer until you slowly die, thanks.
there's so much wrong with this post. so much...
1.passive smoking has been massively hyped up, to the brink of mass hysteria, to be something far far greater than there is any reasonable evidence to say that it is. yes, it's bad, but there are far worse things for your health that you encounter on a daily basis, and you don't get all puffed up (no pun intended) and self righteous about.
2.if the smell bothers you, tough shit. your dress sense probably bothers people. you wouldn't stand for someone whinging about taking it elsewhere. if that became mass opinion though, you'd have to. bet you wouln't be too pleased.
3.you're not paying a penny. how many times does this argument need repeating before a single anti-smoker takes note? all the medical treatment that you or anyone you know have ever received has been more than covered in taxes from cigarettes. about five times over in fact.
5.since you answered no to the first question (see first post), no-one asked for "your" "opinion".
(at least i hope not)
patrolling the streets, knocking down smokers
I'll answer when I get back inside from my five minute break.
I'm starting to really miss it.
because I hae a rather boring life and it gives me a reason to understad hy girls might not like me.
because it makes me look cool and pisses off whiney bitch non-smokers.
i dont smoke
Because I enjoy it. Freedom of choice, innit.
although for most people it's a social thing, for me it's quite personal, i enjoy sitting outside smoking on my own.
i hate the smell, and none of my clothes or anything around me smells of it, and i would never let it get like that. also i don't want to continue for more than another year. i know i can stop, i just don't want to.
but I don't find it particularly social either. I like to sit out in the sun, read a book and smoke a couple of fags. It's relaxing.
I don't hate the smell though, unless its really strong. In fact if it's 'fresh' so to speak, I quite like it on girls. Does that make me weird?
pissing in a cubical and not a urinal, having jam in a roll and not honey etc, that's freedom of choice. Inflicting fumes on to people that DON'T want to die is not freedom of choice. It's harmful, inconsiderate and downright stupid. The best thing to happen IMO would be for smoking to be made completely illegal. I don't give a shit if people think if infringes on their 'freedoms!'.
get off your fucking high horse and stop assuming every smoker does that you idiot. i would never smoke near someone without asking first - they're free to say no, and i'm for the smoking ban. it makes things cleaner.
Obviously not everyone does, NO, but the guy that lit up next to me at the bus station this afternoon did, and that's enough for me, thanks.
does that mean that everyone with a skinhead is racist 'cause i saw one beat up a black guy and call him a nigger?
i'm not narrow minded. i don't like to swing hissy fits on here, but just because i think smokers are inconsiderate when they smoke in PUBLIC, does not make me narrow minded.
You're skinhead / racist jab is hilarious.
you said it was a case that ALL smokers do it, i said does that mean ALL skinheads are like that?
you are narrow minded. just 'cause you have had someone do it to you in public (did you ask him to stop?) does not mean all smokers are like that! ffs you wouldn't even notice. WE WOULDN'T BE SMOKING. do you know if each and every person you stand next to at a bus stop is a smoker? NO. so how can you make a fair judgement? YOU CAN'T.
it isn't the smokers that's the problem, it's the people without manners or respect for other people.
obviously proved your point well.
arguing though. We're just going to go round in circles. I'd rather watch a bit of telly or something, you know. Just as you'd probably prefer to smoke a fag.
that you are generalising, that statement was narrow minded.
see also: people who don't smoke 24/7
why not. OK, IM GENERALISING.
you think all smokers are the same. that is the definition of narrow minded
"lacking in tolerance or breadth of vision"
Obviously i didnt mean literally. You just take it literally on purpose because then you don't have to defend yourself.
Well there we go guys! I guess in lacking in tolerance or breadth of vision. I'll be packing you off to labour camps if you're not careful.
still means you don't have to defend your argument.
i was going to make it myself but i thought i'd give one of you two the satisfaction...
maybe if i was speaking to you in person i'd take more care in how i worded everything, but srsly, i really don't care. fine, i generalised, you win. you're still harming youself though! But i guess you're ok with that.
we're all gonna die!
also that's only if you smoke your whole life. which doesn't apply to all smokers. your lungs are self cleaning, once you give up they start doing their job.
i'm only gonna smoke for a bit while i'm young.
I am fine with that.
Secondly, it IS my freedom to choose whether I smoke or not. Just as it is my choice whether I eat a jam roll or not (stupid example). What makes you assume I stand next to babies blowing it in their faces?
You point is so moronically ham-fisted it's embarrassing.
maybe you do. Some will and some won't, i completely understand that. It's the more to do with the dangerous of standing next to a baby and blowing smoke into their faces, than anything. It shouldn't be an option in the first place.
to do what you want (as long it doesn't infringe that same choice for others) shouldn't exist?
it does infringe on others. Smoking, that is. As i mentioned, the guy at the bus stop today decided to smoke, besides there being another 3 people around him. I'm not saying EVERY smoker is like that. I'm sure there are many that keep to their quarters and don't bother anyone else. (but they're still smoking).
how can it infringe on others if they keep to their quarters?
The guy at the bus stop was clearly just an inconsiderate individual, that doesn't mean smoking should be banned for everyone. That is senseless Tipper Gore/Daily Mail reactionary rhetoric.
ok. well, i'm going away now. It was nice chatting!
I'm going out for a fag
I'll take my pious hat off now
it doesn't unless you are inconsiderate and selfish.
I can't ever recall being asked by a smoker if I minded them smoking near me
how does smoking inflict on the health of others now? We can't smoke indoors and I think the very small amount of fumes you are subjected to outside are not going to cause any health problems at all.
When I am smoking in a crowded place I try to smoke near other smokers, seeing as we're forced into packs anyway. If you are stood next to someone smoking and it causes you some discomfort walk away from them.
The fact that one of you lives in London and is moaning about cigarette smoke OUTSIDE is something I find really baffling. If you want fresh air then move out of the city.
but i don't believe i should have to walk away from THEM! I'd just rather not have it there at all, innit.
i moved well away from you all every time in the queue for the bus to atp. sort of the same thing.
and although I don't like smoking per se I don't have a problem with smokers unless somewhere is horribly smokey or people are blowing it pretty much right in your face (it does happen).
At least half of my friends smoke. I'm just killing time.
I smoke either in the presence of other smokers or away from non-smokers who whinge about it. My choice does not inflict on the health of others, if I thought it did, I wouldn't do it.
I suppose I'm just being pedantic though. I appreciate the general point. If taken at face value, it's a silly statement because their smoking may well have impacted on someone's health at some point. Probably not as much as loads of other things though, true.
Basically I'm being overly pedantic/niggly about definitions of health, so yeah ignore me.
I'm home from work killing intranert time!11
I'm just surprised at the level of certainty of the statement
But I consciously make an effort not to affect other people that don't want to be affected. I don't agree that it's a silly statement.
but yeah I don't think either of us care that much to continue arguing. I'm just glad there are smokers like you two who are considerate.
without the nasty reek of old tabs tainting my hair and clothes.
I enjoy it.
