in all honest, we're probably fucked right?
having a swing at everything to get out for 150 by lunch
then at least the bowlers get an extra day and a half of rest
duck avoider in test match history.
SHAME HE CAN'T BOWL FOR TOFFEEEE>!
beat the edge a million times.
Anyway, is no-one impressed at his duck-avoiding capabilities? 38th consectuive non-duck test innings.
not an all time listing
gower managed 119 in a row, the crafty sod
Ntini to Anderson, 1 run, he's off the mark for the 38th consecutive Test innings! Not entirely convincingly - a thick edge through point - but it's enough to bring him level with Brijesh Patel as the fifth-most consistent duck avoider in Test history...
DAT MUST MAYK IT TROOO
a fairly reliable cricket site, no?
...and i think you mispelt 'true'.
Also I didn't like ABDV banging on about how the crowd booing him spurred him on.
If you don't want to be booed, don't OPENLY CHEAT
For me the worst part isn't even the dropped catch but the fact that he point blank lied to his team mates making them look silly
he said he wasn't sure from the start but his teammates said it was a catch
as such he was pretty remorseful about the whole thing
...the big shit lying cheat.
his innings was the most depressing thing about this whole test
de villiers innings was so boring to watch, but its that attitude that will win them this game. How the fuck does pietersen think he can ever do england a favour in this game by coming in for 5 balls, hitting 13 and then getting out?? What a plum!
'we'll be alright! We'll make it through to the end of the day'
And then I remember that the test started on Friday. And they've got tomorrow as well.
Listening to TMS at the moment is rather like listening to a kindly uncle describing his errant nephew very slowly burning some ants under a magnifying glass.
its hard when you're playing such a bunch of cheats innit.
for an England cricket fan
"There's runs galore, you just have to play well. I wish I was padded up in the England dressing room, what a day to bat..."
I wish he was padded up in the dressing room!
Here's our secret weapon!
Boycott 19 678 balls, 0 fours, 0 sixs
overthrows off a sauntered single as the fielders slowly go insane
this is quite literally the most exciting thing EVER!
"X looks good, we can do this!"
We all know how it ends.
I think we'll be all out by the end of the day
Jimmy's four he just hit?
As long as it isn't caveated with "he's going to bat for hours", because he isn't
He just got mullered.
so they've decided to kill him!
fighting to save a test match, needing to bat for 2 days.
after 4 balls he's got 13 runs. genius.
He's still averaging about 80 in this series so far. He can't be expected to score 100 every time. Sometimes other people have to as well.
He's the one person left in our batting line-up who's really up for a fight when it gets tough.
Pietersen is poor when it comes to "digging out" an innings. What was required today was hours of batting and low/slow scoring (like SA in the 1st test). Not flashing the bat about like a 20/20 match
when he came in and smashed Australia all around the park on day five of the Oval test in 2005? He's at his best when he plays like that. You can't enjoy it when it pays off and then criticise him for it when it doesn't. imo.
Surely the best players should be able to adapt their game to suit the match circumstances. The final ashes test was a completely different situation to the one england are in now.
Plus he is clearly NOT at his best playing this way, cos he got out wafting outside off stump
If there was a way of batting where he never got out, he'd probably use that one all the time.
The fact of the matter is, he sometimes does play defensively and sometimes it works but I think he's worked out he plays a lot better and gets higher scores much more regularly when he takes the attack to the other side. Which is all he was doing.
This batting line-up is not close to being good enough to block for two days. There are five recognised batsmen. Cook is going through a bad patch. Vaughan hasn't made second-innings runs for as long as I can remember and Bell rarely offers anything when the going gets tough.
So batting for two days was always going to be tough. Especially if you let South Africa dictate the tempo. That's what Pietersen was trying to avoid, and in doing so I'm sure he had aspirations to get wipe out the deficit (if he'd stayed in, achievable by the end of the day) and set something like a target they could bowl at.
caught by de Villiers of all people.
175 all out.
to find a bit of form with little pressure. So I'm hoping there's another 120-odd runs.
Maybe even less
Game on! 35-ball double-century from the talismanic lancastrian will see us right.

Well I hope no one bought an advance ticket for tomorrow
It will be...
Only seen him bowl two or three times this season, but based on the overs he's bolwing, might be a test too soon. When he's fully fit, no question he should be in the side.
Harmison should unretire from ODIs and prove he can handle the pressure. I'd only put him back in the test side if he can and does well. Too much of a risk otherwise.
Simon Jones is ready, believe me. Although it would fuck up our attack something rotten.
