This makes me feel all inadequate...
Ruined one of the great historically epic stories.
Read Gates of Fire for a proper re-telling
I think its a good film, because it captures the mythology of the battle and the Iconography of sparatan life, but massively factually incorrect. Most notably the amount of bumming that went on in sparta.
I just read a lot of books about greeks and romans and stuff. My parents liked greek myths more than Grimms fairy tales for some reason.
Its based on a comic that is based on the story of the Spartans
It's not meant to be factually correct
A comic book filmed as a movie
Still doesn't stop it being shite though
And they should make an historical "accurate" version of the story
I did here a while back that Gates of Fire had been touted as a film, with Michael Mann directing
so be it.
When I saw it, I was sat between a comic geek friend and an Ancient History student friend. It was fucking horrible.
Comic book guy loved it
Historian ranting about how their capes were the wrong shade of burnt oche and the immortals were in fact all actually monkeys?
When that goat headed man thing jiggled his way on to the screen, the student guffawed.
We played the next day. We won. By a lot. It was possibly the best I've ever played at rugby
I accpet your opinion.
I disagree, but respect it
I dont really think it matters either way about facts but I love the visual impact of the film
Anyone who disagrees is either a girl or a eunuch
PREPARE FOR GLORY
Possibly the best really, really, really long music video ever though
People always ask me "Rob, what was the best bit of Glastonbury 2007? And I tell them straight - watching 300 on a screen twice the size of a bus"
and get a beer. And hopefully a male chum to do the same. Then do chest bumps while joining in with the shouting.
