how to tell colleagues its your birthday

Smee [Edit] [Delete] 20 replies 11:43, 15 July '08

sorry for the obvious "please wish me happy bday thread" but...

i havent told them in the run up cos I havent been working here that long, and dont want them to get me a card or anything, or have to invite them out for drinks or anything like that, cos, well, i dont like them that much.

but i am at my desk like it is any regular day and i would like them to know so they can wish me happy bday and stuff, just cos it'd be nice.

do i tell them? how do i tell them? i was thinking of sending an email round, but thats ridiculous isnt it? maybe il keep quiet.

what would you do?

  • a) happy birthday

    b) no no no no no no NO to sending an e-mail

    c) ask one of them conversationally what they're up to. Usually this becomes a reciprocal question, and you can say "well i'm off out for a birthday dinner with mates tonight" or something similar

  • Inspired by Jenny Celerier from The Apprentice

Stand up and announce it with a wide grin on your face. Await ridicule.

    • is this a universal thing?!

people do that here and i find it so strange for someone to have to buy cakes for everyone else on their birthday

but its fucking wierd isnt it? its just screaming out for people to wish you a happy birthday.
I dont want to do that, Im a no mark in this place anyway, so would only want my immediate team to be involved.

  • I'd keep quiet

It's really exciting not telling anyone. It feels dangerous. I didn't tell anyone about my 19th and nothing happened. It was thrill-a-minute. Not even being sarcastic. Try it.

it's also less annoying than people who never talk to you pretending to be interested in your life
