I always, always, make them either too hot or too cold, and then end up compensating too far the other way.
to 1 part base, add body
so I leave it on and forget about it and then i come back and its waaaaaaaaaaay hot so then i put loads of cold in and then its really cold and too deep and just quite disastrous really. I think I want my mum...
that way you can manage the temperature to suit your needs. once you're confident with this method, then you can start working to the same specifications, but not be in the bath at the start (it does make it a little less satisfying if you don't go dry to fully immersed straight away).
the cold tap 2/5ths of the amount that you have turned the hot tap. of course this wont work if your hot tap pours out hotter/colder water than mine.
however, clicking on your profile made me think of you lying in the reed beds à la Millais rather than in the bath
