For those of you that have seen this film, I ask you this:
Would you have called the police?
I thought it was a tremendous film though and I loved the bleak "nothing is going to change" ending.
But my girlfriend said she would, and so did my brother's girlfriend. This prompted my brother to look into it, and apparently it's really split as to what people would do in that situation
I'd have left her with Morgan, her mum was fucking awful.
I thought about it a lot afterwards. I think by calling the police he ruined several people's lives:
The little girl's (obviously only with hindsight could you know if that was true)
Morgan Freeman's wife's
His own, to a certain extent
His girlfriend's, to a certain extent
The guy who got shot (er...ended his life in this instance)
But then....could you live with not returning a little girl to her mother?
Also, I'm worried that I cannot remember any of the character's names.
erm, that's all I can remember too
I've done this twice now this morning.
I know it would have been MORALLY wrong not to, but practically speaking the best thing for the girl would almost certainly have been to stay with Morgan Freeman. Still, the film was about a much greater fight against police corruption so I can see why he did it.
I enjoyed the film, despite it having a completely absurd amount of false endings. It played out the moral ambiguity of the situation very well.
But it invites people to make value judgements about 'good' versus 'bad' parents.
Which you can't, so the kid should go with her natural mother.
But in this case, there was no suggestion that the kid was being abused. Just that she would have a 'better' life with rich parents.
Or just know how to bring up a child? Surely poverty isn't a pre-requisite for behaving in the way she does..i.e. going out for a date and leaving the babysitting to chance?
a drug addict and that she never really cared about the child till the 'kidnapping' happened.
I saw it ages ago but isn't it revelaed that she has no contact with her brother and his wife who were basically raising her before hand which means that when she inevitably heads down that slippery slide again there'll be no-one to care for the child.
I'm making alot of assumpitons here I know.
if you haven't already, love me some casey & his wheezy americana voice
