What did they expect, pint glasses of peanuts and Tesco Value Potato Ring Snacks?
I'll get em some donuts
"Hairy crab" and "Bighandthornyhead"?!
(or Bono in a boob tube on a choir master’s lap)
of extravagance and waste in the NHS/government/public sector that I do sometimes question the supposed guiding moral values of those involved. But yeah it is a given at a conference you get nice food. Apart from psychology ones where you get egg and cress sandwiches.
And FREE DANISHES! The danishes were free!
you walking round all Californian with one of those massive metal coffee containers in one hand and gesturing wildly with the other hand going OH MY GOD (all Cali-accented) THERE'S TOTALLY FREE DANISHES.
In Tokyo I'm expecting a geisha delivered to my room
Running up to colleagues, HAVE YOU SEEN THE FREE DANISHES, spitting pastry at them, I'M GONNA GO EAT THESE IN BED YEAH
I believe that the geishas are coin operated in Tokyo. I'll leave it up to you to find the slot.
not related to geisha insertions
I deserve all I get.
but, these things are to be expected. did anyone really think that the leaders of the world would be served a normal 4 course dinner? nah. and i'm sure wherever they're staying wants to showcase itself too.
lavish but not surprising.
if you're at a well fancy restaurant.
you could go 5 if you have sorbet in between starter and maincourse.
The lactose intolerant are missing out on a whole course.
i can barely imagine this, let alone eight.
in a suitably posh environs rather than her having 4 courses every night.
she does have a family crest after all...
cos he knows tomorrow exists! the deluded fool.
not least because part of it is the old Spurs badge!
hahahhaha! that's not even irish. oh sarah.
i just googled it!!!
if they're created in paint shop pro.
considered a message by many, that this is alright to aspire to.
You have rubbish leaders, you should try to get me into some position of influence. I will try to sort things
Isn't even that much for meals in Japan is it....?
and with Japanese culture being what it is, it's not surprising that they would give them the best that they could, foodwise, and also probably giftwise too.
Also, milk ice cream? How lazy/gross.
Golden Brown made that big deal about British families wasting too much food (when, in fact, households are responsible for less than 50% of wasted food across Britain), and then the next day he's sat there eating an eight course meal
It obviously wouldn't be regarded as newsworthy otherwise
And we all know he did, the gammy eyed bloater
it's just a little hard to accept this as taking up nearly half the front page of the paper. The papers are depressing me on all fronts today.
Slow news day, I assume
Not that G(r)8 at all really, eh?
how the hell? ar they using gold paper?
why dont they just give that to the poor!
Suprising really when you think how incredibly liberal and, ultimately, evil Japan and China are towards putting animals on to a menu... shark's fins, Whale burgers, Tiger paws, Panda skins, Turtles, Donkey penis, monkey brains, the dirty fuckin' bastards.
Don't make me mad!
They may be exotic, but I'll bet the portions were tiny.
I'd take the £283 million claim with a pinch of salt too.
to rant about people's expectations of politicians. There seems to be a good percentage of the population who expect politicians to work on minimum wage and have no extra expenses.
I think there has to be a real financial incentive to go into politics. I would like very intelligent people running the country if possible and that's only possible if the job pays well.
Hazel Blears, yeah?
You're not justifying this.
Are you saying Hazel Blears's vagina is overrun with weeds?
That doesn't really have much to do with my point.
is not really bringing the most intelligent people in the country to rule is it
I'm saying if they were paid minimum wage, there would be a far far smaller number prepared to stand for election and the more people who are the better really, as it means the candidates people want will reflect their views pretty well, which is what democracy is all about. To get to the top of government, I do think you have to be very intelligent, if only politically. I wouldn't describe Hazel Blears as stupid. A lot of other things, but not stupid.
look, you don't want twats in government. the kind of person who would happily eat all that shit and accept expenses for all and sundry is a twat.
What would you have done? Said 'this is an insult to the people of Africa' and sat on the table refusing to eat? Politicians can't really afford to behave like that. Look at George Galloway.
Why did anyone feel the need to plan to serve food like that anyway?
It's been going on since food was invented.
and i was wondering if it really IS desirable to have people who want loads of money to be in charge.
Being ambitious and highly motivated by money doesn't necessarily make someone intelligent or best placed to govern others.
there's an incentive to go into politics, which is a good thing. The more people want to go into politics, the better the choices available to the public.
What about the incentive to contribute to society and the well-being of others?
I'm being hopelessly idealistic here aren't i?
but i get the impression that, like me, it's left you angry and bitter. This may be a chicken and egg scenario.
goes into politics. There are much easier ways to make much more money, like investment banking, hedge funds, commercial law etc, which involve much less public scrutiny.
but it becomes even more of a problem then, because there's less competition from the actual competent people, because they're all off getting better jobs.
I think that i'm just making up problems for myself to worry over.
that fuller stomachs for the G8 leaders would help them make decisions, and help the food shortages in the long run?
WHAT about it
