do you care?
I agree with yes_, if you hate them, hate topshop/man as well as pretty much all clothes retailers
Pretty much all high street retailers use slave labour. If anything primark are more ethical than topshop for not trying to rip off the consumer as much by charging a 10000000% more than they should because of low manufacturing costs.
And who has littler, more nimble fingers than a child???? Exactly! No one does! Child labour isn't evil! It's just good old fashioned common sense. None of that equal rights politically correct bollocks - the best person for the job gets the job gets the job.
You wouldn't want a blind person driving flying an airplane or someone with Parkinsons operating on your mother. Well, would you?
My grans great at knitting but i would never wear any of the shite that she churns out.
These kids, with their young eyes on the fast moving fashion world, can keep abreast of the latest trends and put their handy work towards coming up with some marvellously trendy creations.
for 3 weeks now.
my friend works there. i lol at her
is how they constantly talk about people being paid "51p a day" or whatever
THEY DON't USE STERLING, SO TALKING IN OUR CURRENCY IS COMPLETELY POINTLESS
clearly they live in poverty, but surely they should talk in terms oh what 51p can buy you in these parts of india?
about what i was getting on my paper round
if i lived in a poverty blighted slum 3rd world looking slum the equivalent value of British 51p might not be as truly despicable and below subsistence living that they always make it sound.
of course i have no way of knowing if that's right or not.
But as these kids get older and realise they're getting a bum deal, they should take it as a good lesson in business negotiation and, hopefully, they'll use this knowledge to barter for better pay in whatever employment they get into after they've completed their Business Studies HND course.
It's a harsh lesson but the business world is a harsh, where the weak are punished. If they get to learn this lesson quicker than I did when I realised i was getting ripped off on my after school paper round then it won't do them any harm at all.
about developing countries. 51p is pittance in India and proof of that IS the fact many live in slums. slums are a symptom of low wages, not the other way round.
what i found most despicable was the fact that adults working in these terrible conditions didn't seem to get any sympathy, oh no, just the kids. and talk of these factories as havens of worker-employer relations was rubbish - they're exploitative and wages are fair as far as it doesn't insult our sensibilities.
essentially if you shop at Primark and are stunned by bad company practices than you officially have shit for brains. i don't know whether this is the Marxist in me talking, but if you believe firms have the consumer's interest at heart than i have a bridge to sell you. the stupid showing off of cheap Primark goods is truly despicable as well. i await the gigantic backlash coming the West's way when this system implodes and 3/4 of the world can act on the fact they're being systematically fucked over.
I wouldn't say i'm worried about it though. I mean, it's gonna take them a while to save up enough pennies to fund armageddon with the shite wages their on.
Sort of balances things out, doesn't it.
Actually, stupid question. Who doesn't?
Add this to a list that also includes: Stardust, a summers breeze, swings and acorns.
couldn't possibly be evil.
Everyone, stop being so mean to Primark. What did they ever do to you?
Getting children to do all the needlework is efficient. And, since your paying them in Sugar Puffs, it saves abit of money as well.
That's a bit sad. They should of held out for some football stickers or some dairylea triangles.
Still, if it keeps them off the streets.....
but they were all Ryan Giggs, so they couldn't do any swapping.
It's not as if the little fuckers would be able to complete the whole album on 51p a day anyway.
It costs facking loadsa money!
and we all know how hard Eric Cantona is to get.
i must stress part-time. it's rubbish and i'm quitting soon.
