what a terrible cunt.
perhaps because it's the knowledge that we're ultimately powerless to stop it without, in all probability, somehow contriving to make the situation even worse
for a chat with him?
Finally someone says it. Why has noone else realised this by now?
Hitler: huge David Gray fan.
Mussolini: poster of Enya in his room.
this has been done before and NEVER turns out nicely. much too easy for his supporters to paint as a colonial power muscling in on their own affairs and excuse for more violence and oppression
that if it was in our economic interest for things to change they would and quickly (see reference of pretty much every war ever...)
Eddy Grant was on SImon Mayo's show on Friday saying how Mugabe wasn't all that bad. I wish he'd bugger off back to electric avenue (Grant, not Mugabe. Although...if he were to take mugabe with him, this may help a little).
Seriously though, i don't know how this one's gonna be sorted out wihtout some kind of intervention...
I don;t understand why the fucking english ar so obsessed with zimbabwe
to the edge of complete collapse. Yeah we're all big old imperialists for caring.
My favourite Mugabe thing ever was a journalist asking a leading question implying that Mugabe's confidence in victory was because the election was rigged got the response "The election is not rigged, ZanuPF is just an optimistic party!"
He's just as dictatorial and undemocratic and bloodthirsty as mubarak, karimov, ghadafi.
And zimbabwe was fucked from the start,, refusal of imf loans due to the post revolutionary government refusing to sell its land to British companies after smith's fall,
a rural elite involved in wasteful cash crops while poverty hit urban areas....
Let's have a dictator of the week on dis, then at least we can spread the smug self-righteousness around
sounds very DiS. I'm sold..!!
Heaven help we actually do more than sit around and shake our heads at the horrid man - you speak of smug self-righteousness, why don't they actually do something about it then? the fact that if anyone dares speak out against Mugabe they get tortured and murdered. the fact that the Mayor's wife was burned alive because he shared an opinion with the opposition leader doesn't alarm anyone into taking action. Mugabe has stopped food aid into a country that is starving and then with his own supply bribes them to vote for him by giving them rations he has taken from the food aids. His thugs beat up innocent women and children to the point of death and then refuses them hospital treatment so they lie on the streets outside the hospital doors dying. So perhaps if you removed your head from out the 'not our problem' mound of dirt you seem to have it firmly stuck into and realise that just because it's Africa and just because it was fucked from the start doesn't justify that kind of treatment to innocent victims.
and he is a vile leader.
He always was.. thats my point.
So it was ok when he slaughtered thousands of opponents in the 80s with the funding and backing of white landowners and the UK. But now that he turned against them these recent deaths that number less than 60 are more horrific than entire tribes being wiped out with British acquiescence 20 years ago?
The situation isn't helped when European assets of Zimbabwean government agencies are frozen.
Or when the west refuses to deal with Zimbabwe as a full trading partner.
While everyone in europe shake their heads and point fingers the Africa union seems to be the only sensible organisation involved in this even though their efforts are widely ignored in the West.
unless everyone opposing Mugabe now was complicit and supportive of him 20 years ago. Which is obviously and patently not the case.
The hypocrisy of states and governments themselves is well known. But to criticise anyone opposing Mugabe now on the basis that the government they live under supported him years ago is flawed.
doesn't change the fact the the cultural imperative to do so was determined by a state that has supported much worse when it comes to atrocities.
There was no media outcry of his UK sponsored atrocities.
Threre was no massive public outcy in in the UK about Zimbabwe's human rights record until the British media told told you to, just after Mugabe went the fast-track land reform route.
Seriously though, the British people don't fully determine what is printed in the British media, and if attention isn't brought to something people won't know about it. On the other hand, the information may well be freely available, but attention isn't paid to it because the prevailing culture at the time doesn't give a shit (read: THE BRITISH MEDIA NEVER TOLD ME TO :()
It may be media and government hypocrisy. But that doesn't make opposing him in itself hypocrisy. It's highly irritating to see people advance arguments about Iraq and our previous actions in Zimbabwe against it, because being a hypocrite doesn't make anyone wrong.
doesn't make anyone 'wrong'.
He's a cruel dictator...ok
Should people stand up to cruel dictators? That's up to them...something I would like to see.
I just find it ODD that people all of a sudden go apeshit about mugabe or China's Olympic bid when it happens to fall in line with capitalist interests.
And with all sincerity these protesters criticise mugabe for 'bribing his people for votes' and making scapegoats out of the country's white population, yet they don't seem to care about their own country's CONTINUING manipulation of the situation and of their opinions on it.
I am not jsut talking about the UK's past roles...it made a fuss in the first place because of its CURRENT interests in Zimbabwe- which haven't changed since smith was ousted.
But I agree with your last post.
people arent concerned because it falls in line with capatilist interest, they are concerned because it is a terrible situation, fair enough criticise britain for its role in the past and criticise the media for ignoring things but to be cynical of people for caring is ridiculous
I was simply responding to points made by others.
if i find i find it ridiculous and disgusting that people prioritize their moral venom for select targets chosen by a racist media,.. its not showing off, its just my opinion..i'm not going to shout them down like you have regarding my posts.
if there's one surefire way of turning around Zimbabwe it's kicking out the only people in the country who know anything about agriculture.
WHITES OUT NOW.
Starvation for all, hussar.
and have no need to invest in the rest of the country because they still own most of it.
where on earth does he get his outfits from? and aren't they in themselves reason enough to place your cross elsewhere?
...and burnt all the Eric Cantona Pennini stickers. Terrible, terrible man.
does anyone else think his head is too small for his glasses?
