is there a reason?
I've wondered this too.
but you get posters for albums too....
the film posters come before the DVD cases.
the CD covers come before the advertising posters.
to make them look more like books/the same height as video cassettes
so ha. you screwed up.
onto all those Video shelves and racks at blockbuster et al without kazillions having to be spent on refits
Hey! I'm pretty sure I still owe you a mixtape! :(
from about 2004?
or was it 2005?
anyway - I'm in a really fucking angry mood (not about the mixtape, as I too owe you)
hmm... I may make a thread...
it's 2am, the sun is coming up and DiS doesn't do politics anymore does it?
go for it
You gotta have it be big because then people won't know it's new. DVD's eventual successor will of course, be smaller - so people know it's new.
then I think "everyone else would think I was a bit stupid if I said that".
Then someone else says it and I feel much better. Thank you.
I think people are realising it's wasteful. And in any event I'm running out of room in my tiny flat. Blu-Ray boxes are a bit smaller. Step in the right direction.
in a case the same size as a cd case but thicker, like those Dreamcast game cases, and all I see is nothing but cuteness whenever I imagine it.
plus the fact that the different size lets you visually differentiate between a CD and DVD without having to look too closely.
it was to differentiate them and stop stupid people getting confused and putting them in CD players and complaining / suing when it destroyed their equipment.
i remember being told never to play a CD ROM in a CD player as it tries to play the PC data as music and just produces horrible noises that could damage the speakers.
you should be able to play any music that's on the CD ROM.
LIKE THE RED ALERT CD ROMS DO
The first Carmageddon game has 7 instrumental Fear Factory tracks on it! :D
the width is similar to vhs and so in order to make this new dvd format appealable to retailers, they kep it the same. Why the appeal...? Because store owners didnt need to spend money on new storage units as they fit in the same way as vhs cases did.
came in those massive boxes? Ree-dic!
The game in a cd case or clear plastic wallet, the installation manual and a fuck load of cardboard!
the box is MASSIVE!
They were the most exciting thing in the world.
