What do YOU think of that?
Will he do any better than Mourinho?
i am happy. big phil is big.
he's a good man manager and motivator by the looks of things, but I don't know how he'll stand up against Wenger and Ferguson as a tactician...
god knows how he will do in the premiership, but hopefully he can get us playing passing football. samba-style!
No, he won't.
in the commentary of the splashfest on 2
BBC says nothing about this although it does say Shearer has declined the Blackburn position. Shame I was looking forward to seeing the back of him as a pundit.
and was also just announced on the Turkey-Switzerland commentary.
Unless Big Phil wants him oot
I can see a few more Portuguese coming in..
I'm not a Chelsea fan but I'd love to see him play in England.
Spurs or something.
Lil Ronaldo should have came to United back in 2003. Stingy cunts. He's not the player he used to be now though...
Silly season has begun!
*phew* okay, i'm done now
Good manager, no European club experience (I think?). Not sure how he'll cope with the press and Roman though.
and his attempts to get him out of the PL then he really is a dozy twat.
Chelsea see themselves as above international football, here it is - complete disrespect for Switzerland-Turkey to announce it during their game, and the whole tournament to announce a manager leaving for their team. i am really hoping Scolari gets pissed at them announcing it now, tears up the contract and leaves that heaving mess of a team Steve Clarke for a season.
i did think "this is classless and attention-seeking" but ehh, there's worse things in the world
i'm gonna plump for "yes" though.

oh well. I hate Chelsea.
and i'm not a Chelsea-basher for the sake of it. i just thought this smacked of the kind of arrogance that Chelsea, and all the big clubs actually, have been showing this summer. could they just pause for three weeks with their speculative inquiries and tapping up of contracted players. yes the Switzerland/Turkey game is not a big-draw but i just thought it was incredible they'd announce it during the game.
they don't want to piss Scolari or UEFA off so my guess is it was about to be leaked so they decided it would be easier making an official announcement rather than letting it dribble out. Given where Scolari is and what he's doing at the minute I guess this has probably been tied up for a while.
he's never managed a european club before
i did notice it when i wasa responding but i thought if i put it below the most recent then more people would see it
Well done to some of you for your grasp of media relations.
Good manager, concerned about the language barrier though.
and it seems to me that they've done this now to try to prevent several big players from leaving, ie. saying to them "wait until July when Scolari arrives" and hoping that the interested clubs lose interest or find someone else in the meantime.
i dunno how central a reason it is though, its quite an interesting side effect that theyve appointed the main person who would be able to stop the portuguese contingent leaving chelsea
with Chelsea's resources and current squad.
He's obviously talented, but managing a club side in Europe isn't really comparable to any job he's done in his career. And he can't speak English. And if you aren't perfect from the off, you're head's on the line immediately. I think they might be 3rd this season. And they'll wish they'd kept Grant.
because ultimately, no-one can have it until they manage to get a job! I think that he's wise enough to be able to adapt tactically.
I am concerned by the language barrier.
which is why I think he'll probably have the smarts to adapt
when you don't speak the language, you've never been involved in the European transfer market and you have literally no time to learn. You have to hit the ground at world record speed and never stop running.
and I'm sure has a well-rounded knowledge of the European game and European players. Transfer market dealings probably won't be performed by him at a technical level. The word is he'll tell Kenyon who he wants, and Kenyon will do the dirty work.
Of course it will be hard though. But what managerial job isn't? I'm reasonably happy with this appointment.
Of course, all managerial jobs are hard. But this one is much harder than most for the reasons I've stated and he's in a difficult position given his background.
You're almost certainly right about Kenyon, but whether that's going to help or hinder him is up for debate.
It's interesting that last year one of the reasons bandied about for Abramovich's personal cooling with Mourinho was that his teams weren't entertaining enough and now he's appointed a coach best known at club level for tactical pragmatism and stultifying 1-0s.
Obviously talented, but as many people have said, doesn't speak the language and hasn't been in club football for 7 or so years. He had better bring some fantastic staff with him.
Switzerland v Turkey was the best game I've seen in AAAGES. It was frigging ace!
wait for the seperate thread!
It was sooooo good!
