Being professionally disabled...

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 23:57, 4 June '08

Bad move?

I seem to be being offered one or two opportunities that sound quite interesting at the moment but basically involve me presenting myself as a "disabled person" (which I am of course; this isn't some kind of a big con trick or anything) and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

On the one hand it's potentially very interesting and it's being suggested I might get to do a couple of things that I'd like to do but might not get to in other circumstances (plus I'd much rather someone like me, who's got a fairly optimistic "so fucking what? I'm gonna do things anyway" approach was talking about disabilities than someone who just wanted to further stereotypes about us all being victims who are suffering nobly) but on the other hand I don't want to cheapen myself or put myself across as though I'm a disabled person first and an actual persons second as these things tend to go.

Thoughts?
