I like national anthems that sound like they should soundtrack big-scale wars or state funerals, that kind of thing. A little bit sinister perhaps, kind of evil, powerful, on the sombre side. They should be kind of intimidating, send out a "don't mess with me" vibe.
But going by my values for a good anthem, Japan has to be the clear winner. It's all of those things entirely.
But Vanuatu wins best anthem title with "Yumi, Yumi, Yumi".
Anthems are fun! Go choose one.
And no, Radiohead is not an answer.
