In my in-laws village (fairly posh, quiet, full of thatched cottages, new money and racists) - there appeared a flagpole and a Union Jack in someone's garden that you can see from anywhere within about 500 yards - all that time and effort and money to remind people that, like 89% of the village you are 'from the union' - what would you bet on it being either about 'pride' or IM NOT ONE OF THEM AND I PAY MY TAXES WHY CANT I GO OUT AND 'ROLL' A PAKI ANYMORE? etc etc.

Really putting the union jack up says to me more about hate than pride -anyone agree/disagree/live in that house?
