did anyone watch this last night?i thought it really put hull on the map as a great city to live in :D
I wish I had I love Hull awwww
its definately not as bad as the media make out.and they did pick pretty much the roughest family EVER to base the show on
It's nowhere near as bad as the media make out.
The reputation is due to a few admittedly enormous shithole estates, but you'd never go to them anyway as there is nothing there and they're way out on the outskirts of the city.
I liked it a lot, the university is in a nice suburb, the campus is attractive and the rent was ultra cheap.
Lots of nice people, good mix of Southerners, Northerners and errr.....Others.
i think people just look at the estates and think shithole (which they are but the city as a whole is ok)
It's stuck out on it's own so something of a negative mystique has built up around it. Personally, I had a great time there and I know that all of my friends did too.
I only really had one negative experience there and that was when some size 16 skanks started on my girlfriend when she politely asked if they would refrain from waving their cigarettes around in her face.
However, that was down to them being ugly and thick and her being beautiful and intelligent!
from Hull in a small town so it's my nearest city and i can honestly say it is not as bad as everyone assumes it to be
There are some really good gig venues and the Uni is really good
Its just a question of avoiding the REALLY rough estates but thats the same in every city anyway
still putting good shows on?
To be fair it's getting better, there are always a few big artists that play the Ice Arena, the most recent one that spring to mine are The Kooks (shudder).
But I've caught The Noisettes at the Lamp on several occasions.
The Adelphi is, and will indeterminably remain - a grot hole. But the atmosphere is still great.
What the shit..
