London Underground Part 2
I'm getting mixed reports on how many blasts have happened, guess we won't know until tonight.

A terror group linked to al Qaeda has claimed it carried out a series of terror attacks on London that have left a number of people dead and hundreds injured.

So yes, a fucking 'power surge'.
Hope all you Londoners are fine, and family, friends etc.
Re: London Underground Part 2
There was a rumour of a blast at 12:12 on another site. Someone has recently posted saying its calm there. So fingers crossed its ok.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Imagine if this had happened yesterday when all eyes on London after winning the bid!! :(

Re: London Underground Part 2
Four of them are on the hammersmith & city line, i would have been travelling through, and most likely near Euston Sq at the time of the attack, bloody lucky.
The attacks were bloody genius though.
targetting the tube which are the veins and lifeblood of London, during the G8 summit, so there was weaker security in London due to them all being up in Scotland, and NO ONE KNEW ABOUT IT! How could that have happened? what's happened to our intelligence service?!
Mobile phone networks are only allowing emergency services & those linked with the line of work to use mobiles.
Landlines are working somewhat now. Fucking horrific.
I hope Blair loosens his suck on Bush's arse.
Re: London Underground Part 2
The hospital (royal london), is the main one being used by the emergency services for the casualties, and it's 2 mins away from my house. It's bloody nuts there, it's mayhem, never seen anything like it. The doctors are just working, in a daze, there's nothing else they can do but work.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
I don't agree with the war on Iraq etc, but really its time to be united, not split into pro or anti Blair camps. Please leave the politics till later dude.
Re: London Underground Part 2
I find that a pretty sick and cynical attempt to deflect the criticism that is undoubtedly going to be renewed over the middle east things he/bush have been getting up to.
Re: London Underground Part 2
To tell you the truth, Blair should have stayed right away from Bush. There's a lot of discomfort about this.
Naturally, with Iraq & Afghanistan there's going to be more, but the chance of an attack would significantly have been lowered had we not been licking him.
Irony is, that Bush isn't willing to praise Blair or say 'hey there, you had so much unrest from your country's people, but you went ahead and helped' (you get me hah), but the fact that Blair said "oh he's our ally, we have to help him, bush all the way ratatatatat" made him the second target.

I'm just not the sort of person to react to this kinda situation by ranting about the government.
Each to their own.

You can either deal with the cause or the symptom, if you know what I mean.
Re: London Underground Part 2
But
Even if Blair wasn't in government, these attacks would have happened.

Re: London Underground Part 2
There's been some panic in Croydon and some other part, but I've forgotten where.
Explosive materials been found at the sites where the attacks happened.
20 deaths, 54 casualties.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
The nature of these kind of attacks is that they do a big round and then leave it isn't it?! It's not like the IRA with lots of small ones so maybe it is over?
I'm walking from Baker St all the way along the Euston Rd to Angel then up to Dalston if anyone wants to join me later today, or help me find a route which doesn't involve walking past billions of major tube stations.

I hope the terrorists die & that (i'm not religious) but God has no mercy on them. They've crippled us entirely.

Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
I do feel very strongly about this, though, and reckon that the Uk's reaction to this can either be to learn from our mistakes (foreign policy) or be like America, and go and bomb something, which judging by our recent governments, is more likely, and frankly that scares the shit out of me. This can either be a fullstop, or another link in a chain reaction.....
Re: London Underground Part 2
I'd rather trust in the ability of Londoners to unite and pull each other through.

I do think it's incredibly important that politics is not ignored today - there must be constant scrutiny on the government and the media and we must make sure that however angry and hurt we are, we must avoid kneejerk reactions.

Re: London Underground Part 2
There is another thread with regard to this subject now. I won't go in there until I can muster a political viewpoint, which will probably be when the emotions and feelings for those involved that have been running through my body since it emerged these explosions were more than just power surges, and that way you won't get annoyed by me.
Perhaps we'll speak then

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we can't really make the assumption that we would have been screwed if it was a chemical attack simply because it wasn't...
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
Perhaps they had to divide their explosives.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
I was around the aldgate/aldgate east tube stations area (they're both across the road from each other literally) just before the bomb went off & i was nearly in front of my doorstep by then (its about 10, 15 mins away from aldgate) and all the ambulances and police cars were moving as was the helicopter (live 2 mins from the royal london hospital). I'm quite impressed, seeing as there was no warning.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Police have confirmed that they are now working on the assumption that there were FOUR blasts, causing reports of casualties in seven different locations.
33 are now confirmed dead. Numbers from the bus explosion have not yet been reported.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
Perhaps they had to divide their explosives."
I would have thought that a terrorist organisation like Al-Qaeda etc would have enough explosives to sink the whole of London. It's probably just a sign of what they can do and how much disruption they can cause with ease.
One of my bosses was on the bus with the explosion and is very lucky to be alive. The two people that were sitting behind her on the bus are now dead. It's all a bit mental.
Re: London Underground Part 2
However the bus bomb certainly was not that powerful, and while we obviously have no pictures of the Tube Trains they don't sound to be gutted like the Madrid trains were.
Re: London Underground Part 2
Re: London Underground Part 2
If a bomb had exploded in Swindon, no-one would have noticed the change.
