An Open Letter to DiSsers

sean [Edit] [Delete] 37 replies 13:31, 14 May '08

Hullo,

I've recently read your thread entitled An Open Letter to DiS ( http://drownedinsound.com/articles/3292941 ) and I feel you pain.

However, I would like to point out a few things:

1) The current ad bug(s) are being looked into and are a browser issue, rather than something intentionally intrusive. We're as miffed by it as you are, especially as we know that if jerks your chain.

2) The site is currently in transition and another facelift is coming. The movement of the log-in box is, as said previously, only temporary. We're also working on improving the community features and from Monday we will, finally, after several false starts, have a full-time tech person (a luxury we've not had since Matt left for Playlouder 18months ago and have only had people on short-term contracts helping out). Things should be running much smoother and to your and my liking within the next few weeks.

3) We really value your feedback and we don't intentionally do these things to piss ya'all off, promise.

4) Some of you may quite like this new site I'm behind, have a look, especially at the Death Cab piece http://www.theQuietus.com would appreciate your feedback.

Thank you for your patience,

Bst rgrds

Can you explain the constant refreshing thing to someone who knows absolutely nothing technical about computers or the internet? Imagine I'm an idiot, it isn't hard.

    • there only seems to be a hand-full of people suffering from this

can you (and anyone else this is affecting) tell us
      1) whether you're on pc or mac
      2) what browser you use
      3) whether this happens on all pages

my suspicion is that it is the DiS gigs advert to the left, which refreshes and messes with the board's javascript, can you see if it happens when the ad changes please.

      sean @DanielKelly | 14 May '08, 13:43 | X
      • it happened to me

when i was at a pc in work using IE. Dis was the only page affected.

        whiterussian @sean | 14 May '08, 13:47 | X
      • Have seen it with Mozilla, IE and Aol explorer.

It happens after 2 rotations of the gig advert at the moment of the Discover shows.
It doesn't really refresh the page as I don't think new posts are shown.

Internet Explorer 6 (haven't been bothered getting my admin to upgrade).

and every so often it seems to kick off my virus software too, and my DiS windows all close down, very annoying.

        happens on all DiS pages.

              sadpunk @sean | 14 May '08, 13:55 | X
            • Is over 4 years an addiction then?

More adverts I'd say - there's too much 'real estate' not being used properly!

              I mean that seriously.
