i was watching mock the week last night

inside-outside [Edit] [Delete] 11:36, 14 May '08

and dara o briain made a lengthy joke about the french along the lines of them being sex and garlic obsessed, it was well received by everyone in the studio and its integrity as an acceptable joke was never questioned. it got me thinking would this have been accepted if the joke was directed at another nationality/religion? Would the BBC sanction a jewish joke? or muslim? what is it that makes the british 'national hate' of france so 'funny' and instantly accepted? Surely the same principles of discrimination should apply? or does this only matter when skin colour is an issue?
