And when did this all happen?
the papers they deserve? i dont like them, but are they really that untrustworthy? I dont think they are actually allowed to lie about stuff, you know, legality and all that. And they do represent a large proportion of the uk, and if thats what people like to read, we cant really argue with that.
do flat out lie about things all the time, for all sorts of reasons that arent inherently political . The fact that there is virtually no time for verification is a major issue..
a brief history of this happening.
I'm bored yet interested yet lazy
since it was established in Victorian times.
if anything, it was even more untrustworthy then. more difficult to do someone for libel
but basically, tabloids were set up with the sole intention of being populist and sensational because it made lots of money. there's been no shift in tabloid culture really; they've always been like this.
although, i suppose lurid reporting of murders has been supplanted a little with lurid reporting of celebrity sex, but it's just the same really. cheap titillation
But celebrity sex murders > everything else.
competing publications = more dubious standards in the struggle to get readers.
And then the internet showed up and made it ten times harder for them.
