Can someone please give me a link if they can remember which one it was please?
Hang on I'll do some googling
I've got an online buddy who works for a betting/poker site, and he hasn't heard about this.
Don't really see how it can be used as a fable for anti-internet 'bullying' though. This appears to be something far more complex than that.
they wrote was pretty over the top, and they just took it too far with somebody who was blatantly mentally unstable, which I would call bullying.
But this story doesn't necessarily transfer to saying "You shouldn't say nasty things about people on the internet". It's pretty clear that this girl had a lot of fucked up stuff going on in her life, all of it far, far more important than a poker forum. The kind of stuff that would make internet abuse, however vitriolic, pale into insignificance.
And in any case it sounds like a lot of the abuse she took on the forum was a direct result of her bringing real-life politics onto it, through her involvement with other people on there. This was far far more than an internet dispute - without the real life dimension to this story I'm guessing it would never have ended in suicide. This was completely different from the petty anonymous mudslinging that goes on on 99.9% of other internet forums. Which means that it's pretty much impossible to take this story and issue a blanket condemnation of all internet 'bullying'.
that she had an over the top reliance on using the board. Having said that, you're completely correct, and there were loads of factors. I think though, if kids are involved in that kind of mudslinging, it could end badly.
