Re: is it worth ...
i'm going to go watch it again, it's totally better than Star Wars.
Re: is it worth ...
when we watched that as kids me and my friends decided that fighting must be really cool ... and PWEI sampled that movie come to think of it

Pure genius... you really really must have it... i have it... own it, buy it... watch it!
Re: is it worth ...
i'd go for the new Filth and the Fury DVD (quite cheap) and SFA's Rings Around The World (fantastic) with it.
But you do what you want.
Re: is it worth ...
one person said Akira should be seen. E Sunshine was best rom com aswell. Refer to that thread or the one before it for all your filmic needs :O

Well with Eternal Sunshine - does the plot grab you? I tell you now that I love this film, it was my film of 2004. Jim Carrey turns in a stellar performance, Winslet isn't anywhere near as irritating as she usually is. It's complex, yet tender, well written, well acted and beautifully shot. the revelations and weird sequences throughout the film are just really interesting and the romance is subtly done, never overwrought, too corny/sentimental. It's surreal and yet one of the few films that's left me thinking after I leave the cinema - 'that was satisfying.
Ad ends.
Re: is it worth ...
perhaps akira, because it's awesome.
and maybe city of men...because iv already got quite a bit of metallica stuff on video/dvd.
Re: is it worth ...
I caught Eternal... at the cinema and it's quite good.
I would like to watch Some Kind of Monster just because of how unintentionally funny it's supposed to be.
If City of Men is a patch on City of God then it will be well worth the money.
No opinion on Garden State,
I would buy Akira, City of Men and Some Kind of Monster.

{I've never actually seen akira but my boyfriend never stops raving about it so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt}
Re: is it worth ...
I thought it was a bit American indie-film by numbers (the 'odd-ball' characters are cliched by now). Zach Braff's directing is very static. The party scene is awfull, I was cringing when I saw it. Natalie Portman's character is quite annoying in it. The bit where they shout is shit, and a really crappy bit of CGI on top. The sub-text about our medication-culture feels like an attempt to be relevent, but it doesn't actually say anything at all. No way could someone who's meant to have been medicated for as long as He has go cold turkey like He does, and then suffer no effects of this.
Still, the script had some decent lines. Ian Holm is amazing as the dad -his slightest shrug of shoulder implies more of his character than any of Portman's gurning does of hers. It's also got New Slang on the soundtrack.
Out of your suggestions I'd get Eternal Sunshine.., City Of Men (which I havn't actually seen), and then with the rest of the money I'd buy Sideways.
