Non-league football = indie as fuck

MelesMeles [Edit] [Delete] 21:25, 26 April '08

So today I went to see Ramsbottom United loose 1-0 to Glossup North End on the final day of the Northern Counties Division 1 season. Me and my friend took a steam train from Bury there. Bury also has amazing pork pies for sale in its market.

At their ground they serve tea in proper mugs.

Anyway, I think I've decided I really like non-league football. This has very little to do with the actual game, which to be honest was only a very peripheral part of the whole experience. But its really fun visiting tiny grounds and watching disparate elements of the local community come together and watch something that is as far as sports go very twee and small. I like it a lot, and I'd really like to get into it more. It probably also helps that Ramsbottom is AWESOME, and next to the steam railway station which had an old-style signal box and all there was a funfair, and at the ground before the game and during half-time they were playing this amazing mix-tape of Manchester-centric 80s indie classics.
