Part of me just died
i'm glad i can't watch youtube at work, for once.
that causes you to start threads like this.
Big deal if he's wearing a Public Enemy t-shirt. He may have been a fan since the start. Who cares?
What's the problem, at least he has pretty good taste in music, it'd be worse if he was wearing a Premier Inns t-shirt!
what with being black and that.
Surely skin colour has nothing to do with the right to wear a Public Enemy t-shirt.
and against what they saw as the continued racial dominance of white americans would indicate to me that their message was directed at blacks, rather than middle class whites.
It has everything to with skin colour, you daft racist
that's the wrong word.
All I'm saying is that he can more legitimately wear a PE tshirt, due to the reasons I stated above.
Don't their gigs over here get a much higher proportion of white guys going to them?
I understand their music is about black issues, but that doesn't mean a black guy is any more legitimate in wearing one of their shirts than a white guy.
It would be like claiming it makes more sense for a women to wear a Tori Amos t-shirt than a man, surely?
as long as you like the act emblazoned on your t-shirt everything is ok? Why should race and sex be brought into it. People should chill out. Lenny Henry may be unfunny but at least he does good works for charity.
And I think that there was a general appeal of their music to people who maybe felt trodden/betrayed by society. But the fact is, that being white and the ethnic majority, we will never experience the same treatment as blacks do from anyone else.
I really like Public Enemy, but I don't feel like their lyrics speak to me on the level that they'd speak to, say, a young black american. So I guess sometimes I feel like I'm missing a lot of the point about them, in that I can't ever really feel genuinely righteously angry when Chuck D is raving and ranting. That makes me pretty sad.
for you to wear a Public Enemy t-shirt compared to a black guy wearing one.
Are you too middle class to wear a Sex Pistols t-shirt?
i'm not a gay or black but i get insanely angry at homophobes and racism.
if you ask me, Lenny is cool.
Black Kids fail
of your life, and yet somehow I know that you have never sat through a Lenny Henry sketch in the entire time that youve been on this planet
He could have lost interest after Tiswas.
So, they're practically white these days then.
