Seen too many incidents of people being pissed around left right and centre by the NHS, and, most recently, a friend with a really serious brain tumour.
"Oh, in the four months we left it to see how it would developed, it's gone from a grade x (normal) to a grade y (the worst possible kind).

One of the only perks of permanent employment seems to be the healthcare. I wish my friend had it.
Such a valid point, when you've been diagnosed with something life threatening, hugely long waiting lists are a definate no no. As you've pointed out though not everyone can afford/has it. My experience of this has been on both sides of the coin, to good and bad result. Not hard to work out which was the good result unfortunately..

I've only used it once, however. I needed to have a toenail removed and i initially had it done on NHS. They didn't put enough anaesthetic in and pulled it off regardless and then didn't treat the nail-bed so it grew back ingrowing again.
Not wanting to go through the excruciating pain at the GP again, i used the private care.
So usually, no.
If anything it reduces pressures on NHS
