Farcet (pronounced 'fassit')
I think we've been here before right?
Yep, that's what I said last time.
Oh well. What's your favourite colour?
Actually I'm not sure if that's a green or a purple. Or it might be something else entirely like a character from Harry Potter.
you'd be living in the SEA now.
exactly what I was thinking!
what, how is Holborn pronounced then? I must've managed to ignore the automatic voice on the tube every time I've went past it
it's more like HOBURN
which is itself followed by IDS (Ian Duncan Smith)
noticed it's sometimes pronounced wrongly on the tube.
Cock Burn would be far better
a lot of Welsh places really.
just not English...
pronouncing it wrongly is stupid. It should be clandidno (although more throat is needed and I don't now how to express that in the medium of text) and ignorant people tend to pronounce it as it's spelt, which is the case with a lot of places in Wales.
i do apologise for jumping to conclusions there.
Alfreton - ofton
Ilkeston - Ilson
Rainworth - Renuth
Tamworth - Tamuff
Bedworth - Beduff
On the First Capital Connect, yeah?
next stop: BLUNDON kings cross
the many wonders of the English language...
I thought it was anyway.
Forget that one, I'm an idiot.
is that pronounced?
Is it pronounced - BISSTER or BI-CESTER?
bisster, apparently, although it quite blatantly should be bi-cester
It's char as in charcoal not cher as in her with a c in front of it.
All within a few miles of each other, all pronounced totally differently.
if you want a properly difficult Welsh place name, try Rhosllanerchrugog...
needs to be pronounced as if it were spelt Ashby-de-la-Zwoooosh!!!!!!!!11
Cirencester used to be pronounced Sisseter by many people, although this has fallen out of usage.
I didn't know that.
pronounced 'wooster'? or 'warester'?
is it a real place?
If it's not a real place, my parents were giving me a LOT of drugs when I was younger. It's perhaps the only town where you're likely to hear the delightful portmanteau, 'FOCKONT' (people in Worcester can't pronounce 'u's properly).
I recently made the error of saying sal-is-bury and was ridiculed :( I would like to think I'm correcting mispronunciation.
Alnwick is apparently pronounced Alick
Penicuick - Penny-cook and sadly not Penny, Quick! or Pen-ic-you-ick
Most places in Scotland...
Why do people pronounce it like it was a small mouse-like creature? They are wrong.
and how people who live there pronounce it.
is pronounced bew-lee.
is for some reason pronounced 'Blakeley'.
i'm clutching at straws after missing out on suggesting milngavie.
pronounced Pun-al I think, its in Dorset, surely it should be Punk-Know-all, then loads of music types who spout shit on DiS could move there !
I'm a thicky!
Belvoir Street in Leicester :D
becomes, depending on accents
and many more.
I was going to use that one for Belvoir Forest in Belfast. :-(
It's pronounced Beaver btw :-)
