Well done on beating Smelltic :D
Our season has really fallen apart.
Strachan out? I'm not sure. But there seems to be some serious surgery in the summer. Strachan has had 3 seasons and built 3 teams. Looks like he will need to build team number 4.
6 points off top with 3 games against the evil empire to come. Two of which are at mordor. It's looking very ominous indeed.
To be honest, he looks like a handy player and could really do a job for us.
If we win the league I will be very, very surprised.
It was looking so good in January but Rangers have really excelled at grinding out results without playing well. Bastards.
We have been bombarding teams for a few games now and just can't get a break.
Tonight performance was by no means a poor one, we just didn't have that cutting edge.
a new larsson is needed badly
get rid of caldwell
give samaras a bloody first team game or
two so he can get into some sort of stride
its a shame but i think Strachan will go pretty soon
A new Larsson is needed badly but can you really think of anyone around Europe within Celtic's budget?
Caldwell isn't that bad. I'd be quite happy to keep him. After all it was McManus who almost gifted Nicholson a goal tonight. An experienced centre-half is need though - Caldwell and McManus are both only 25!
Personally I'd draft big Bobo back in. He was solid at the back, made the occasional error but in general was top notch. He'd give the fight we need to take on THEM.
I'd drop Broon, he's not performing and maybe a wee rest on the sidelines would do him good. Hartley is a top player and has played well when he's been in the side.
We don't have the fight we used to but we have some top players so we CAN still win the title.
I'd start Samaras against Gretna. Surely we will pummel them to build up some confidence going into a do or die game over a Mordor.
Sno can be useless but doesn't get much of a chance to get some confidence. Samaras has got loads of potential but seems to just spend his time conditioning his hair because he's never given a decent chance.
I really think he will develop into a cracking player. But throwing him in at the deep end at this stage of the season wouldn't be the best idea IMO.
We needs a Petrov type player. Infact can we rewind 4 years and have Petrov, Bobo, Sutton, Big Bad John, Henke, Didier 'Cheetah' Agathe in the side?
Wait, what am I saying...that means we would have Big Rab between the sticks! Oh noes!
Is the team I'd start against Gretna. Get the full backs to double up on the wings with McGeady/Naka and fire hundreds of balls in the box from the by line. Have Hartley/Donati pummelling forward to see what they can create.
Gretna are there for the taking, we could give them a right doing over if we hammer them from the start.
6-0 for the Celtic/Gretna game. I doubt those uninsured players are gonna want to get stuck in!
And the playing surface should be in decent nick.
In my assumption of decent nick I obviously mean it will be lightyears ahead of Fir Park.
They should have played it at Firhill, I would have gone along then!
is the epitome of average with some great little tricks here and there. He has played well this season for the first time but his final ball is not up to scratch. He could be worth 10m down the line but just now you would just be buying potential.
You're not getting him. I assure you.
Celtic will not let him go. Especially for a paltry £10m.
He's a fantastic prospect but would be silly to leave before he properly develops.
He's shown flashed of brilliance and has learnt a lot in past two seasons. Final ball is actually pretty good (even if pablo doesn't agree).
He's quite two footed and likes to cut inside from the left and have a dig with his right. He's also good and getting to the by-line and swinging them in with his left.
three months is the first time he has put any consistency together, i agree that his delivery is getting better but it was piss poor so he has a way to go yet but he is also still young he has time. If it wasn't for him Celtic's poor season would be over already so I will give him some credit. It’s just money down south for players is crazy, any other league and £7m tops I would say.
McGeady has had a bit of consistency in the last few months but all in he hasn't done much and has never done it against the almighty champions elect Rangers.
Celtic for me have a number of problems including the fact that Nakamura ain't up to much but always gets played, Brown hasn't lived up to his hefty price tag, Caldwell is utter garbage and strachan doesn't have a plan B.
We(Rangers)aren't playing great either but we are tough to break down and score against and clearly have a great team spirit, something celtic seem to lack.
Strachan won his 2 leagues against arguably the worst Rangers teams in the last 20 years and now he is up against a better Rangers team albeit not great and he is struggling.
In conclusion get it right up him and celtic!!
I await your retort Blaast!
might be one of the worse celtic players of the last 10/15 years!
daniel cousin doesnt seem to like that eh?
i saw rangers play hibs a couple of times this season, hibs have been pretty dire this season, i was quite struck that the only thing really separating the two teams was that rangers had a striker who could score and were a bit better organised. im not really sure i'd call that great team spirit, maybe it is though. the way they won the league cup was pretty terrible and hugely undeserved.
scott brown is a better player barry 'cant cope with living outside glasgow' ferguson.
were utterly embarrassing last night. When they somehow manage ONE lucky strike on goal during the entire match and it goes in, you know it's not going to be your night :(
stir up a hornet's nest, but how were Aberdeen embarrassing?
Celtic had three strikers on at one point and you had poleaxed, however unintentionally, their talismanic centreback and you still couldn't score?
The goal wasn't through luck, it was through abysmal defending.
Celtic have rode their luck much of the season with abysmal defending with many teams missing sitters just this time a team took one of their two sitters. When Strachan didn't buy a good centre back in the Jan window he gave up on the season then.
By the way is McManus captain material?
for the last 5 minutes. Aberdeen may have lost their "talismanic" centreback late in the game, but always had 11 players in their own box defending. It was anti-football and i'm sorry, one shot on target and one goal does need to include more than a bit of luck to win a game. If Aberdeen had set up to have a real, honest go at Celtic (there's no denying that they had assumed defeat before the start and that they would have been very surprised with their win last night), Celtic would have had a chance and wouldn't have needed to break down an entire team to score a goal. Aberdeen will get pumped at the weekend. Embarrassing.
The aberdeen keeper didn't really have any real saves to make. Does Nakamura have anything to offer other than the odd free kick?
They were up against 11 defenders for roughly 80-90 percent of the game and failed to take the tiny amount of chances they were given. Aberdeen defended really well, which wasn't that tough a task when you consider the entire team had been ordered to do so and Celtic weren't having their best day in front of goal. Were it not for a freak, lucky goal from their only chance, it would have been another 0-0 bore draw. A pathetic match all round. Aberdeen should not have to win matches like this. If we'd been beaten by the better team on the day, then it'd be a fair cop, but it was one team trying to win and another trying their best to stop it being a worthwhile contest.
Nakamura can sometimes fail to cope with the pace and can sometimes appear to be lost, but will, more often than not, offer up some of the most heavenly through-balls you will ever see.
Would you have Nakamura in your celtic 1st 11 all the time or would you like to see someone else brought in?
one of the first names on the team sheet every week. I'm sorry, if you can't see that he is a truly gifted footballer with some of the best passing you will ever see and only see the rubbish, slow stuff he does, you aren't watching Celtic properly. He's had a sketchy season compared to last (has been injured for most of it). I'm sure that, as someone who doesn't follow Celtic, you wont see much of the amazing stuff he does. Even last night, his through ball to Hesselink (the one he fluffed over the bar like a spacker) was absolutely sublime. Most of his critics take world class passing for granted.
We gave them a good pummelling.
Our finishing, well lets just not talk about that. We should have won that game but 2 or 4 goals. McDonald had a wonderful chance, JVOH should have scored with one of his headers, Donati should have got his 5(?) edge of the box shots on target and Riordan maybe should have done better with that late chance at the back post. In fact, had it not been Boruc on the end of the final ball in, you would have expected that header to at least test the keeper. Then there was JVOH header that was heading in that hit the defender who knew nothing about it. Just hard luck.
One mistake last night cost us. We did NOT deserve to lose that game.
we have to accept that teams come to our backyards to defend and it’s our job to break them down, we do the same when we go to better teams in Europe it’s just tactics which Strachan doesn’t seem to know much about.
You do the same. Celtic actually try to play football and on most occasions it costs us, but I'd rather that than sit behind the ball for 90 minutes in hope of getting a valiant draw or a sneaky win.
you are going to win nothing. I would rather have won one comp and still be in another three oh wait we are. Smith knows how to get results with the calibre of player he has and he is doing a good job to. Celtic have a group of average players and no spirit and actually have only played well in a handful of games they have been very poor this season and the results over the year don't lie.
once again Pablo1 we find oursleves in total agreement! Funny that!
We are the people (sorry had to throw that in there).
this season and it's done us well most of the last few seasons. Not got much to complain about.
once again Hahaharoldramis we find ourselves in total agreement! Funny that!
I really do enjoy being an old firm fan!
Especially the now!
and laugh about it instead of it descending into a sectarian warfare and a knife fight.
One particularly horrendous game against Aberdeen and it's cry-time for all. I don't think so.
Rangers fans can say what they want, but if we win the league this season (looks tough, but weirder things have happened), it would be 3 in a row. That's not the mark of a team in as much disarray as the gers would like to believe. Yeah, we've been guff at times, but, all in, it's only 6 freaking points.
Still, watching Rangers visibly lifting their game for old firm matches (such complete disrespect for the Ibrox faithful) and taking laps of honour when they win only furthers the gulf between the two clubs in my eyes. Do they take laps of honour when they beat Hibs? Celtic aren't that far ahead in size are they? :D
I would be horrified if they didn't!
Also when did we have a lap of honour?
Surely you can agree that celtic up their game against us (just that Smith generally gets the better of celtic).
you don't think it's generally disrepectful for the people who pay in to Ibrox every week to see Rangers play their best and destroy everyone who stands in their way with a complete respect and authority as the best team in the land end up showing themselves up to be merely giving 60 - 70 percent as they turn into slabbering hounds of evil whenever they come up against a bigger team in Celtic?
The last Old Firm game Barry Ferguson and Alan Hutton absolutely stormed all over the place kicking the crap out of everyone who stood in their way and deservedly won, only to take a total brass-neck lap of honour at the end. This was September/October???
I've watched Celtic play consistently brilliant the last few seasons (with a few hiccups here and there) and treat Old Firm games in much the same way they do all the others. They go out and give 100 percent regardless of who they're playing. Sometimes it doesn't work and the last few times against Rangers, they've not been good enough. But it's a respect thing and Rangers clearly have the mentality that Celtic are a bigger team who can only be beaten when playing like their lives depended on it and celebrating like it's a cup final. Pretty much a beamer all round :D
slabbering hounds of evil! You sound so much like a friend of mine! Great phrase!
I think Rangers can beat most teams without playing at full capacity but in celtic they have to up their game as they know it will be a much tougher test. I could say the same of celtic as i have watched plenty of their games over the last few years where they are totally sub-par till the old firm game crops up. Also consistenly brilliant? You having a laugh?
And I don't think for one minute that anyone at Rangers believes celtic to be a bigger team.
Bottom line when it come down to it you and I will argue till we are blue (sorry) in the face its all part of the old firm fun.
at the moment you are champions but when things start to go wrong at home its hard to keep up the fight abroad. When you are doing well in Europe but lose the league then you will have more tricky qualifying games like Bratislava to get back into Europe also the league is no.1 last 16 is good but you also have to at least reach semis in your domestic cups and from how far ahead you where last year you have gone along way back.
for Rangers getting their stuff back together this season was it? You almost got to the last 16 too, were it not for your lack of experience. Seriously though, i'm not fussed about the whole package. We do good and bad and only an idiot wouldn't say the same about their own team (rangers).
I come back to my initial point: Aberdeen were embarrassing last night.
1 - 0!
I don't even like football.
I can't escape you!
