Grammar
Hello,
I'm currently doing an English project on whether Standard English is still important, and jsut wondered if anyone would care to answer the following questionnaire? Just placing an arrow next to mistakes, or correcting them if you wish, is great.
Grammar questionnaire
The following extract contains a number of grammatical mistakes. Please circle any mistakes you see:
That morning, Joe got up and ran to school. Joes teacher, Mr Brooks, had warned him not to be late for his lessons that day. Mr Brooks was the teacher who Joe liked the least. The morning’s lesson was on science, the childrens’ favourite subject. Just before the dinner break, Mr Brooks told them what they would be doing in the afternoon: “Its something different, you’ll enjoy it”. Joe and the other children went for their dinner, lining up to get their meals from the same dinner lady they always got them from. And then they returned to class, where they were to soon learn about the mysterious new subject. Mr Brooks welcomed the class back: “This afternoon, we shall begin to look at the exciting subject of grammar”. Joe had heard all about grammar: “But we haven’t done nothing wrong!”, he cried out.
If you could also take the time to give brief answers to the following questions, it would be much appreciated:
Do you feel confident with grammar, particularly when writing?
Do you feel that you were taught grammar at school? Was it effective/off-putting, etc.?
Do you think ‘good’ grammar is especially important, especially in light of emails, text messages, etc.?
