crazy coincidences
So a uni friend from back home was in town this week, and I missed him Monday night so agreed to come along to a gallery opening with him Tuesday night instead. Turned up early and checked out the artwork, to see a piece in a series of abstract works with some writing to a Michael Tait on it. "How odd" I thought, "I know a Michael Tait from Sydney."
Well then it became apparent that this was an Australian art exhibition, and so it was even more likely that it was the same guy. But I didn't know the artist, so how would I ever find out?
Finally my friend turned up, and it turned out that the reason he was there that night was because he went to high school with this particular artist! I finally got chatting to him after a few free champers, and the artwork was indeed dedicated to the same guy I knew from Sydney, who he was best mates with. On top of that, he knew a really good friend of mine who I used to work with (completely different circle to my uni mate who was in town), and he is also holding another exhibition just down the road from my house.
a) I wasn't even supposed to be there that night
b) He chose to write about this one specific person by name in his art
c) Of all the artists there that night, he was the one my uni friend knew from high school
d) My uni friend was in town for a total of 5 days, so it was already a huge stroke of luck that this show was happening in the right time frame for him to be able to attend
The chain of events is so nuts...
