How does Ebay work?

ehwhat [Edit] [Delete] 6 replies 17:17, 27 February '08

As in - If something has had 4 bids and it's up to £60 and has 3 days to go...

Can I just not do anything till the last minute in 3 days time, then whack liek £62 or wotevs and it'll be mine?

or could someone have liek...a special set limit and it keeps edging up? or something?

THANKS

  • eBay bids upto your maximum bid

Someone could have bid "up to £500" but it'll only show £60 as the second highest bidder may have only bid "up to £58"

    • Yeah..

So you should put in the absolute maximum you will be willing to pay for the item. You won't actually have to pay this amount of money unless someone else bids an amount just below that..

      • .

If you put £30 as your maximun, and someone else bids £20, yours will go up to £20.50 or something, if they then big £21, yours will go up to £21.50, et cetera until it reaches £30. Although it doesn't always increase in 50p amounts, it's usually nothing more than a pound. Unless you're bidding on a large, expensive item, like a car or summat.

      • don't do

max bid-it'll bid like 3 times in a row on your behalf even when it's reached the necessary price. You're better waiting til the last minute, otherwise you're going to be adding to the gradual inflation of the price.

        • It's never bid three times for me when it's unnecessary..

But it is true bout adding to he gradual price inflation. It depends on what you're bidding on, whether it is a popular item where bidding will be more competitive or not.
