Good! they should be allowed to defend their trophy...although I will DEFINETLY leave the country if I see Peter Crouch (they want to sign him yes?) playing in Champions League, we'll be the laughing stock of Europe.

well yeah obviously. Otherwise it would of been an end to the "Champions" League having any credibility at all. Its shit enough that the domestic champions of Ukraine are put on a par with the 3rd and 4th best teams in Italy, Spain and England, and the champions of Poland or Hungary are even below that. How can you not have the champions in the so called Champions League. For once, UEFA got it right.

        but if the Champions League 'Champions' aren't even 'champion' of their own league then that fucks off that argument completely.
        
        If the Euro champions are allowed back in even if they didn't qualify then that is devaluing the national leagues.
        
        What's to say Man U win it next year and finish mid -table, would the same apply to them?
        
        Not at all, because regardless of whether you've won a cup competition or not, you still have to be good enough in your own league to qualify for next year, otherwise European champions would never have to put any effort into winning their own league.

        The World Cup winners used to qualify automatically but then France complained that not having competitive games made them lose the edge when it came to the tournaments.
        
        The rules were subsequently changed, which is why Brazil now have to qualify for Germany.

        The shite have just been given a place in the qualifying round, at the detriment of other english teams if they reach the group stage.

        In future they will be allowing the winners of the Champions League into the tournament automatically - it was part of the package the UEFA board made up.
        
        And it won't have teams complaining at the lack of competitive games as they'll be qualifying while in the Champions League. Yes. I think that makes sense. And they won't know if they've won it until after the qualification finishes. Yes.

At least our FA didn't decide to fuck Everton over and give their spot to Liverpool like The Spanish FA denying Real Zaragoza just so Real Madrid could enter as champions.

Anyway it will be intresting to see which far-flung corner of europe Liverpool get first, it's like the Intertoto Cup!

        It also means that 5 are going through to Champions, 3 to UEFA, 1 UEFA Fair play spot, 1 for the Inter Toto Cup, and 3 for the drop with 3 or 4 others fighting for survival. That leaves about 3 being able to call themself mid table.

        I think there should be a rule saying that the champions of the competition automatically qualify for the next tournament but it is wrong to just make this up at this point as opposed to implementing it at the beginning of the season to apply for the next one. I mean when Real Madrid won and finished fifth they took out the fourth placed Spanish team and I'm not saying that should have happened here but it is unfair that just because Liverpool moaned enough they got their own way. Anyway if it were up to me, the only people in the competition would be the champions of every domestic league and at least that would give the UEFA cup a bit more importance and excitment.

        Well they'd probably stretch for 16 and have 4 groups at the beginning. But the idea of having more teams from once certain country is a sponsorship one. They want the best teams and sometimes more than 1 come from one country.

        i think its good that liverpool have gotten in...my housemate says they don't deserve their place ... but they won the arguably the most difficult cup competition in the world, and they beat juventus, chelsea and AC milan to do it. that makes that bloody well deserving in my book.

        But teams do get knocked out along the way, doesn't have to be every game. Very few cups are straight knock-outs, the FA cup is the only one I can think of.
